Emily Thornberry, Jess Phillips, Lisa Nandy and Rebecca Long-Bailey stood against Keir Starmer in the 2020 Labour leadership contest.

In 2024 he appointed 11 women to his Cabinet, a record number for a UK government.

Why are we back to this? 👇🏻

As I start Thursday's thread, Ukraine remains under heavy attack.

Day 1541 of the war, as Russia continues its now 24-hour terror campaign.

As most observers feared, the 3-day "ceasefire" just allowed Russia to build up stocks for this scenario.

Welcome to a new month - February being the 49th month in which Russia has been attacking Ukraine.

It's Day 1439 and here comes another daily thread, all the important stuff, fact checked and without gratuitous gore, every single day.

Saturday morning catch up on podcast listening.

I am left genuinely curious what would make Robert Jenrick be ambitious and think he should be running the country.

I am lots of things, but I am not that. How does a person end up thinking about themselves in those terms?

The UK is a bizarre country where its seen as just fine & normal for people to sleep in tents in the freezing cold. Temperatures to hit -4 this week

But the idea Billionaires could be less rich. Not poor, not struggling, just a bit less rich, this is seen as extreme and radical

I don't disagree with the sentiment - there certainly is a battle for the soul of the country. But Starmer's handling of the issue has been wrong on so many counts - too little, too slow, ineffective language, no real plan, & worst of all, aping the sentiments/actions of Reform.
WE NEED IMMIGRANTS!
“Let’s call it for what it is: bullshit. The truth is, politicians have talked about little else but immigration for decades and in the most dehumanising ways.

Polanski added: “Stop the boats’ is all we hear. Well, today I'm saying ‘stop the bullshit’.”

In a rallying cry to progressives around the world, the Prime Minister said allies must stop the ‘politics of predatory grievance’.

By party

Con: 82%
Lab: 46%

Tax Havens are parasites aiding tax-dodgers, criminals, money-launderers and dictators.

They must be abolished.
