I built the rest of my life out of that same retreat: refusing to look at the reality of loss, refusing to let anyone see me breaking, convincing myself that if I never picked up the phone, maybe the worst hadn't happened yet.

I wrote today’s post several weeks ago. Tonight, I went to see my 16-year-old play a small show. I had no idea what guitar he would be playing; I didn’t even know about the show when I wrote it. But sometimes things just align.
