This is the Medusa Nebula ( (Or CTB-1). It is the remnant of a supernova that occurred in the direction of the constellation Cassiopeia about 10,000 years ago. Since then, it has been expanding, and if we could see it with the naked eye, it would have a size similar.

In Yu Miyazaki’s haunting artwork from the exhibition The World Seen from Here, a delicate threshold between waking reality and the spirit world unfolds in soft, dreamlike hues. Japan
At the base of the composition, a young woman reclines peacefully upon the ground as if suspended in deep slumber, draped in a grey kimono patterned with subtle fan and chrysanthemum motifs. Surrounding her, vivid red spider lilies (higanbana) bloom from the gloom, their fiery petals providing a striking visual contrast against the monochromatic sepia backdrop. Hovering above her rests a colossal, pale full moon, casting its muted glow over a translucent, ethereal spirit dressed in white who gently holds a thread suspended between realms. The image evokes a quiet, sensory atmosphere: the cool dampness of an autumn evening, the subtle scent of wet soil and blooming flora, the pale hum of moonlight, and the breathless hush that accompanies the realm of dreams and memory. Anchoring the piece is the profound cultural symbolism of the higanbana, a flower deeply entwined in Japanese tradition with the arrival of the equinox, poignant farewells, and the transition into the afterlife. The glowing phantom holding the slender thread evokes classic folklore regarding the unseen ties connecting souls across time and existence, bridging the physical world with the realm beyond. Through precise tonal control and luminous glazing, the painting reflects exceptional technical skill and material mastery (monozukuri), carrying the heritage of Japanese figurative painting into a modern, introspective context.

Tall rushes at the edge of a misty pond.. Norwich VT, September 2026

#ECK #Photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #Scape #Landscape #Nature #ColorADay #BWFri #ClassicMono
This monochrome image shows a group of rushes standing at the edge of a pond on a misty morning. The rushes rise from the muddy, leaf-scattered shore of the pond at the bottom of the frame, and end about one third of the way from its top, where their seed heads can be seen against the fog. Behind the rushes is the surface of the pond, where reflections of distant trees and bushes can just be made out. The image is finished by the appearance of other yet more distant trees and bushes, which gradually vanish in the mist hanging over the entire scene. Bright yellow mushroom among the decaying leaves. Norwich VT, September 2026

This image shows a bright yellow mushroom, probably an amanita of some sort, growing among decaying leaves, wood chips, and branches. The mushroom rises from the forest floor about a third of the way from the bottom of the frame, and a little right of center. We have a lovely view of its rough white stalk and striking yellow cap with jagged white protrusions sticking out of it. At the very top of the mushroom the cap becomes blushed with red. A brown oak leaf sits at the base of the stalk, running over to the left border of the image. The image is otherwise filled with reddish brown wood chips, and dark brown twigs, and is finished by bluish-black patches where the morning light reflects off their damp surfaces. Continuing an exploration of some of the less well-known star-forming regions of our galaxy, in this case a part of the huge IC 1318 nebula which shows a nice mix of absorption by dark clouds of dust and emission from the edges of gas clouds irradiated by young stars. 🧪🔭

LEDA 1313424, nicknamed the Bullseye, has 9 rings. Hubble has confirmed 8 rings, and data from the W. M. Keck Observatory confirmed a 9th. Hubble and Keck confirmed which galaxy drove through the Bullseye, creating these rings: the blue dwarf galaxy immediately center-left.

This week, last year, I captured the newly discovered 2025 comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon. It last visited 1,400 years ago and outperformed initial brightness forecasts, surging to 400 times brighter than expected. 🤩
