Writer of quiet stories about belief, kindness, and the unseen threads that connect us. Soulful narratives. UK based. Short fiction. Rest. Refresh. Rise
Somewhere, a reader is waiting for a book that hasn't been written yet.

Not another version of a story they already know.

Yours.

And they won't know what was missing until they find it.

Perhaps today is the day to write the first few lines.

Three in the morning. A small head against your chest. The quiet wondering whether everyone else is finding this easier.

"The First Year" offers stories and gentle reflections for those hours, and for the changing days beyond them.

The First Year is a book of stories, myths and gentle wisdom for the woman becoming mother. Something she can open in a quiet moment, with room for her wonder, her weariness, and the person she is still becoming.

A thoughtful gift for an expectant or new mother.

Noticing the Community You Already Belong To
There is a woman at the bus stop. You probably have one too. Not the same woman, but her equivalent. The man who walks the same spaniel past your window at twenty past eight. The girl at the pharmacy counter who says "the usual?" before you've opened your mouth. The neighbour whose name you've never quite caught, but whose Christmas lights you'd notice if they didn't go up.

One of the strangest things about writing is that you can spend weeks worrying whether a sentence works, while somewhere a reader may eventually underline it because it says exactly what they needed that day.

There are times when nothing is particularly wrong.

But the world has been asking so much of you that you can no longer hear yourself clearly.

This is for one of those times.

I’m interested in the moments that don’t look important until much later — the book you picked up on a bad day, the sentence you couldn’t forget, the first time you said no without explaining, the room that finally felt like yours again.

What small thing changed something for you?

I keep thinking about how much of a life changes quietly.

One sentence we stop believing, one habit we no longer defend, one truth we finally let become inconvenient.

By the time the outside notices, the real change may already be old news inside us.

The Power of Letting Go

Letting go is perhaps the most misused instruction in the vocabulary of healing. It is offered too quickly and too easily, by well-meaning people in the presence of difficulty, as though it were simply a…

I keep thinking about the difference between being known and being explained.

Sometimes growth becomes awkward not because we’ve changed too much, but because someone else is still relating to an older version of us.

Being known well may also mean being allowed to become unfamiliar.

The more I write, the less interested I am in having something clever to say.

I want the sentence that makes someone stop because it captures something they’ve felt but never quite managed to put into words.
September 13, 2026 at 5:33 AM
Perhaps remembrance is not always looking backwards.
Sometimes it is noticing what came with us.

A voice you can still hear.
A sentence someone always said.
A habit you inherited without noticing.
A person who is no longer in the room, but somehow still part of it.

I don’t think I read to escape my life nearly as much as people assume readers do.

Often I read because there’s something in my own life I can feel but can’t quite name.

Then a stranger in a book says it first.
September 7, 2026 at 5:06 AM
Reading doesn’t disappear all at once. It thins out quietly.

Fewer books. Less confidence. Less chance someone notices the struggle early.

Then one day that child becomes the adult beside another child.

Literacy travels across generations. So does its absence.

She thought she was opening an old tin box. Instead, she opened the lives of a bugler waiting for the guns to fall silent, a postmistress carrying terrible news, a widow at the Cenotaph, and a family still living with what war left behind.
