"Huh? Oh yeah, no, I'm fine."

He reassured, silently cursing at himself. He'd seen Jacob and Nick shirtless before, so why was this so challenging? Jacob even had a similar body type to Chris. Then again, it 𝘸𝘢𝘴 Jacob.
He cocked a brow from the look on his face. Why was he so flushed?

“You alright? I know there’s mild heat here so you can go drink some water and sit somewhere.”
"It's not something I really talk about around here. I kinda just keep it at home, you know?"

He fully faced Chris now, his cheeks still a bit flushed from before.

He fully faced Chris now, his cheeks still a bit flushed from before.
“No shit. I’m glad you read my mind.”

One hundred fifty sit ups was met. He rose his hands up to grab on the bar and return to hanging right side up. Landing on his feet after letting go of the bar.
"After the summer, yeah. Actually, I'm majoring in, ah, quantum physics..."

He'd mention, chuckling breathlessly to himself.

"I know I don't seem like the type."

He'd mention, chuckling breathlessly to himself.

"I know I don't seem like the type."
“Nothing wrong with that. It’s your choice.”

He briefly looked at his body then returned to sit ups.

“You don’t appear overweight anyway. Shouldn’t school be your focus? College, maybe?”
"Oh, yeah, cool..."

He glanced towards him and then away again.

"I, uhh... I like to workout sometimes too. I mean, I'm not much of a gym rat, but you know... for health and... stuff."

“Whenever the day opportune it.”

He said breathily between sit ups. His shirt lose and dangling. Exposing his torso in his position, but it’s not like he’s Isaac Newton.
Awkwardly, he rose a hand up to rub the back of his neck and turned away, his cheeks dusted pink.

"So, uh... how often do you come here?"

He cleared his throat.

“Jesus fucking Christ. . .”

Did Dylan actually say that last statement to a man who even has authority above cops. He shook his head then jumped to grabbed onto the bar. Then rose his legs up to hang on the sturdy bar until he was

"What, you don't want to save a damsel in distress?"

He grinned, watching Chris.

"Not that I'm much of the damsel in distress type. I'm sure I could charm a cop or two."

Dylan had good hearing, but Chris didn’t express the slightest remorse for the words. Now the two was in a spot in the gym where there was more wide open space. He went to one of the pull up bars and looked up to determine the height.

“Good. Cause I’m not getting you out jail for that.”
"Okay, I'm not 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 clueless, thank you."

Dylan shook his head, sighing softly.

"I'm pretty sure most people would get an easy restraining order in that case."

“Do I have to make a mention of good timing when that should be common sense?”

He groaned softly then muttered ‘clueless kid’.

“It’s not like I’m telling you to tell someone directly a day after meeting ‘em ‘𝙃𝙚𝙮. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪. 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙄 𝙛𝙪𝙘𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪?’”
"So you'd like it if that person just walked right up and said, 'Hey, let's go out on a date tonight. Pick you up at eight'? No flirting whatsoever?"

He raised a brow, following behind Chris.

He raised a brow, following behind Chris.
“Simple. Cut to the chase. Be honest about your feelings to this person. Ask them out. It’ll show you’re not playing games.”

He turned his back to him and headed to the next area.

“Or whatever people your age do these days.”
"True."

He nodded slightly, hesitating a moment before continuing.

"...What works for you..? If you don't mind me asking."

Chris simply shrugged then stood up and returned the dumbbells back where they belong.

“Everyone’s unique. What works for one may not work for the other. Smooth talker or not.”
"He's a bit hard to read sometimes. I'm not so sure he even realizes when I'm making a move."

Dylan admitted with a slight grin on his face.

"Maybe I'm just not as smooth as I thought."

“You said it yourself. Shoot your shot. You wouldn’t know how he really feels about you until you try.”

Chris place the dumbbells on the floor. Taking a deep breath as he sat up.

“Besides, you’re still young. Even if he rejected you, there’ll be others who may see you differently.”
"They do say near death experiences bring you closer."

Dylan pointed out, looking up in thought.

"There is this guy I'm kind of into at camp. He's the brooding loner type. I'm not so sure the feeling's mutual, though."

Fortunately, Chris’ eyes were more focused on his exercise than Dylan’s covetous stare. He attempted to recall any successions.

“Hmm. Maybe one during my early thirties. But that was after escaping a near death situation.”
"I'm sure at least one succeeded, though, right?"

Dylan was certainly eyeing the man now. However, he did attempt to avert his gaze when the realization hit that he was staring a little too hard.

“Not really. Most of their flirts pissed me off. Especially the most cliche ones.”

Now those words sounded a little breathy after reaching sixty. Some sweat appear on his shirt.
"Heh, I'm sure I'm not."

He chuckled a bit, glancing down.

"You probably have a ton of people lining up at your door for a hot date, huh?"

“You don’t have to be military to stay fit. As for the bear thing, you wouldn’t be the first to call me that.”

His breath was long and steady as he continued lifting the weights. Twenty-five, so far. And he had yet to sweat.
"Have you seen yourself? You're like the human version of a bear."

He rose his brows, keeping his gaze on him.

“Why’s that?”

Though he was focused on the dumbbells he was lifting consecutively, he was listening to the man as well.
"No, but I won't kiss and tell."

He leaned back against the wall, arms folded across his chest as he watched Chris.

"Military, though? That's cool. Definitely not surprised by that."

Chris sat on the bench once he moved then leaned his back on the surface. Both hands get a firm hold on the metallic dumbbells.

“Military, yeah. As for the latter? It wouldn’t be much of a secret if I told you, right?”
"Keep praising me and I might just ease a bit."

He teased, shifting to face Chris.

"So, what do you do exactly? I mean, you said you're not a cop, but you don't seem like a criminal either. Are you military? Secret agent?"

‘Stupidity hasn’t stop you from making dumb choices earlier.’ This being his thought when he entered the locker room. After unpacking his gym clothes and changing to the brown shorts and plain white tee, he returned to Dylan’s location.

“You’re still breathing. Good boy.”
"Yeah, because I totally want to play with a weight that could easily smash my foot and make me writhe in pain."

He glanced over at Chris with a smile.

"I got it. No need to worry."

Turning, he proceeded to follow the older man's orders.

“Strange word to use on someone who’s simply not taking your bullshit.”

When they got to the gym door, he was not far behind him. Door sliding open automatically when he walked further inside. Chris halted and took his bag from him. Bobbing his head towards the dumbbells near benches.

"Well... someone's dominant."

He grinned as he made his way to the door of the gym.

“Oh, I’m just messing with ya also.”

His shirt freed from his grip when he took a step back. The soldier’s tone still sounding as if he was on the verge of eliminating him.

“No harm, no foul. Now go to the door. Don’t make me wait.”
"Jesus, dude... C'mon. I'm just messing with you. I do it with everyone."

He turned his head, silently impressed by the man's physical strength. He could definitely give Jacob and Nick a run for their money.
