An insult that doesn't get used enough is "unserious". There's so many people out there who KNOW they're trolling, they KNOW they're playing Devil's Advocate, but they want to be taken seriously. They want to be portrayed as the "grown up" of the conversation. And the press often treats them so.

Hey, guys, when the librarians get pissed about the destruction of books, it’s time to put those listening ears on.

Because we are very comfortable with the idea that books are tools that can be retired. What’s happening right now is not that.

Do yourself a favor and leave your phone in the other room. Pick up a book and read it uninterrupted for a long time. Pay attention and notice how good it feels not to be constantly interrupted by digital notifications. It's a miracle that we used to live like this. We don't know what we're missing.

it’s annoying when i watch a show and it actually is as good as people say.
daredevil, the sopranos, breaking bad, etc.
like cmon man. why did i put off watching this. you all told me it was that good.

these are bad times to believe that being a “bad“ person does not remove humanity, and thus it does not revoke human rights.
every evil person ever was a person. they still deserve to be treated humanely, regardless of whether or not they had good intentions or did good things.

Don't be an ass, write your alt-text. 🫵

Dramatic opening aside: alt-text is one of those things that can make a pretty big difference in how people experience your posts.

And since not everyone experiences the internet the same way, here is my thread about it🧵

71 years ago today, Emmett Till was lynched in the Jim Crow South.

Mamie Till-Mobley chose to have the world see the violence inflicted to her son, serving as a catalyst to the civil rights movement.

Here in Illinois, we will never hide from or forget our painful history.

I’ll always remember Dolly Parton for the fact that she donated $1 million in 2020 to the research that led to Moderna’s COVID vaccine, as well as millions more for childhood vaccine and cancer research.

She was an immensely talented, kind, and giving person.

I started my PhD program with an eight week old at home, sole income being my doctoral stipend, in a history program, in Knoxville, TN. And every month we got a new book to read to my son, free, mailed to us, so my kid, my kids, grew up in rooms full of books even when I had no money.

That's Dolly.

Remember that if you got the Moderna Covid vaccine, you have Dolly Parton to thank, she gave the largest individual contribution toward their research to make it possible.
