Probably a crank. Probably on a list. Mostly I care about democracy and humanity.

That said, I truly don't understand why we have allowed ourselves to get to a point where we can no longer avoid using violence to defend democracies. It cannot be the same.
We need to start burning things honestly. AI data centers built that spurn the vote. Threatening BISON again. Stripping public lands and CDC. Pretending the will of the people is in favor of Jim Crow. I'm worried about what more permanent damage can be done and don't think midterms will fix it.

Read the first few pages and I have to say that anyone who doesn't get this doesn't know nearly enough irreverent, queer as fuck, former military personnel.

Local pollinators and things do matter, but I do subscribe to the idea that we're stressing ourselves out trying to take these plants out head on. There's a big section in practical permaculture about reframing thought around them being "opportunistic species" rather than them being 'invasive'.

So, this is totally a controversial take, but I don't think worry over invasives in this way is going to be super helpful. The AMOC is done and the environment is cooked. Better to focus on rebuilding natural-enough guilds that help overall than exactly what was here before IMO.

My life already sucks because the rich completely fucked it.

If my life doesn't get less stressful while I am also enabled to actually make a difference in these systemic problems after midterms then I and many others will give up completely as we begin to starve more.

The gloves will come off.

We're going to make sure rich democrats lose. We're going to make sure every fascist loses. And then we're going to die of starvation because we had to play the game That Way instead of doing what we WANTED to do: Being enabled to have homes while building frostpunk agriculture vats & wind & solar.

If our lives don't improve and serious effort isn't put into this (in a total war kinda way) in the next couple years while preserving as much freedom and comfort as possible (which is possible) then I and many other people are just going to start playing the game to make sure the right lose.
May 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM
Many, many other people my age have made similar choices. But our lives just keep getting worse. The government is woefully incompetent and unable to make smart decisions across the board in a way that 17yo civilization gamers and rimworld players can tell easily.
May 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM
But they won't and aren't so here's the other thing:

I've resigned myself to the fact that I am going to probably be one of the billions of people that are just going to starve or die without any recourse.

I did shit as right as I could. I even got a trade because I want to be USEFUL in rebuilding
May 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM
If our governments started building infrastructure right now to grow food in the north despite it becoming an ice ball and every economy were dedicated wholesale to it like total war, far fewer people would die.
May 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM
So here's the thing:

Billions of people are going to die of starvation and disease and environmental effects because the AMOC is actively collapsing and will destroy our ability to grow food. Lots of other problems regarding wasting fertilizers compound this.

There's this thing that happens sometimes when playing board games like risk legacy where ppls obviously losing know they can't come back but choose to "have fun" or at least control their own life by making sure the most powerful player or someone else loses.
