Electing Gavin Newsom in ‘28 would inaugurate a deflating four year session of performative ineffectual corp dem platitudes and populist red rebounds in ‘30 and ‘32. No more glib hollow mannequins. That window has to be closed and locked.

I voted early today, with a granddaughter. Albemarle County, Virginia. I voted for Tom Perriello for the 5th Congressional District. Feels good. I also watched the Republicans make asses of themselves going after Jack Smith. A good day!

My favorite recent movie inspired by the Odyssey is Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Based on the original story passed along orally by generations of story tellers until written down. I have yet to see the Nolan movie. I feel confident that it and all derivative works are loosely based on the original.

I think it’s significant that Capo Verde emerges as the algae emerges.

How Viktor Orbán’s Hungary Eroded the Rule of Law and Free Markets
Many on the right see Viktor Orbán’s Hungary as a model. In fact, it is a cautionary tale of unrestrained executive power and crony capitalism.

I also observe that many BlueSky posts lack context or references to context. Or references to antecedents. Many appear to be communicating to a real or imagined group of insiders. Poor communication, it is. The character limits are part of it. It leads to contracted sentences. Doesn’t excuse all.

I find it curious that a one response to someone else’s post on BlueSky garnered a lot of responses and a few follows. Certainly this one word doesn’t explain this response.

One of my favorite jokes:

Did you know they are taking the word gullible out of the dictionary?

Really? (You can replace response with whatever response you get).

Just saw this on another platform. Overseas military folks getting prenatal care are being told that the ‘host nation’ must provide this, but only after 36 weeks (just shy of 9 months). Landstuhl is not remotely a hardship tour. I think we all know what’s going on here.

The masked armed men have to wear the masks because the woman in the bathrobe might threaten them
Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

The package for my dog’s vitamins. I’m not surprised he doesn’t understand the human-centered message. He just aggressively snatches the “cute” treat. It’s kind of like AI.
