Fun fact - if you withdrew the entire US federal budget in singles and stacked it, it would stretch past the moon.

Also, the Treasury would be very mad at you.

For reference, it's currently unclear if Russia can even meet it's own domestic demand for diesel. Prior to this there was an export ban because so many of their refineries were taken offline.
Trump announced finishing a highly «successful» discussion with Putin, securing immediate Russian deliveries of over 300 thousand tons of diesel fuel globally and to the US, plus 500 thousand throughout November, followed right away by another million.

Like, regulations that establish decreasing density at arbitrary distances from higher-order transit stations are pure political compromises, with no scientific evidence, and a caricature of how market forces work (or how laypeople think they work).

This is a success story of vulgar YIMBYism and an indictment of places that are spending profligately on "affordable housing" for people who could, in the long run, easily be served by the market.
Portland Real Estate Is Such a Mess That All Housing Is Affordable Housing
Rarely has the Oregon city seen such a narrow price gap between market-rate and affordable units.

A domestic violence charge was made public against a local McMinnville city councilor, Dan Tucholsky. That alone was crazy, but now he's come unglued and publicly threatened people on Facebook.

He's a NIMBY, so I can't say I'm sad to see his political career implode, but wow.

GGWash: Zoning doesn't decide if housing is "affordable" - funding does, and that can happen anytime, even after a building opens.

So opposing market-rate housing to "save room" for subsidized housing is incoherent: you can't subsidize a building that never gets built.

Want more subsidized housing? Start by building any housing
Most subsidized or “affordable” housing in America was not initially built as such. It makes little sense to oppose new homes because they are not subsidized from the very start; those homes very…

New in PN: DHS's abuse of power in Minnesota was even worse than we knew

I'm currently sitting in McMinnville City Hall for testimony on a new housing project (I was in favor). What strikes me is how much support there is.

A lot of the opposition keeps reusing the same NIMBY talking points, and seem somewhat confused that they aren't working. They seem blindsided.

There's an affordable housing development being built on church land next door to me in McMinnville, and I can't believe there was even an appeal to block it on the basis of "parking" and "mass" despite no legal basis for denying the development at this point.

I guess I'm gonna be testifying today.
