Just did a quick look around and I don't see very many headlines about the President of the US making people pledge allegiance to him personally while telling everyone to commit election fraud and "cheat like hell" to support his party.

We've basically run this experiment when we created two German states, both populated primarily by ethnic Germans, after WWII.
