On 11th and 25th October I’m delivering two public history talks for Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall. Drawing on our ongoing research partnership, I’ll be looking at what happened when touring players rolled into town, and how the political tensions of the age played out on a local stage.

Regional performances regularly took place under the watchful eye of local officials in buildings like guildhalls. Many of these forgotten "theatres" still survive, and it was in one of these, Stratford-upon-Avon's Guildhall, that Shakespeare likely had his first encounter with the players.

Glad to hear it's now online 😊 A pleasure as always chum!

And not to forget my talk at St. Mary's Guildhall Coventry following hot on the heels of these - booking already open for this one!

That sounds like an acceptable approach. (I found conference name badges made out of seeds that can literally be buried after the event and felt inspired and then saw the price and thought with terror how to explain it in justification of resources 😭)

I just love the word "stewes".
