There was an early test build of Super Mario 64 DS that included a minigame where you beat Toad with a bat. Not sure why it was removed, Miyamoto loved it.

Early copies of Super Mario Sunshine had several bugs, including a fatal memory leak that would not only cause the Chucksters to throw Mario into our dimension, but it would, more importantly, IRREPARABLY BREAK the GameCube. This was patched in subsequent copies.

In 1994, Phillips was contracted to make a Sonic the Hedgehog game for the CDI, however Phillips cancelled the project because “Sonic’s arms were blue in the gameplay. This was a fatal flaw that we cannot put past us, as we at Phillips do not believe in making imperfections.”
