How far the US has fallen, it's shocking. If his aim before he got to power was to f up America and set it back years he's achieving his goal.

So dramatic, if Europe can come together after a conflict that left millions dead and most of Europe decimated by the fires of war then so can north America after a trade spat and a few mean statements and texts.

I think the trident is longer and thinner and the french missile is fatter, so the tubes would need changing that for sure.
August 10, 2026 at 1:33 PM
Wouldn't you at this stage have to redesign the whole SSBN? which is built around the diameters of the missiles. This was the point I asked about several months ago.Itd probably be something for the next generation if they did. I.e dreadnoughts replacement, as retrofitting them would be eye watering
August 10, 2026 at 1:16 PM
Also assuming we can still purchase and ship the off-the-shelf components against the wishes of a presumably bat shit crazy US admin anyway, I'd assume there are some export controls that would be implemented
August 10, 2026 at 1:12 PM
I know.......🙄 We're talking specifically about a hypocritical worse case scenario about the deterrent arnt we? The chances are remote, however its a higher probability now than it was 3 years ago.

Please don't boil a complex issue into a straw man argument for internet clout purposes mate, of course we can theoretically. But it's not as simple as taking your car to the garage, viability, skills, facilities, contracts, cost, practicality, legality. Are all factors that would come into play.
August 10, 2026 at 12:52 PM
Presumably though they'd still need to fabricate components though as theyd naturally fail over a multi decade life span of the missiles & periodic test firing would be difficult as no replacement. I feel like relying on maintenance, would only be viable short to medium shot term time frames option
August 10, 2026 at 11:03 AM
I'd dread to think what retrofitting the dreadnoughts would entail, from research ive done (all be it only asking an AI) suggested though it'd be extremely difficult to achieve. A home grown copy of trident would be extremely difficult.

These are uncomfortable head aches.

Seems only common sense to me to develop at least a modest air launched capability, as an emergency pivot if needed would be verging on economically impossible for sub based nukes on anything but the very long term.
August 10, 2026 at 10:41 AM
Sure, I figured as much, least up to the medium term. I wonder how long though MOD could manage and maintain the relatively small number of missiles they'd have physical possession off in the event of a serious breach with the Americans.
August 10, 2026 at 10:41 AM
I mean the reality is though, should a situation arise that the UK needed to use it's nukes there isn't anything the Americans could do to imminently stop it. They're already on the boats under the water. Granted though over the course of a year or so they could degrade the use of the deterrent
August 10, 2026 at 10:16 AM
Right.... But they have a history of causing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of damage year after year. It makes sense to build for them doesn't it? An earthquake will flatten an entire city if it's not built accordingly...

I'm thinking people can put air cons in their homes if they want it...... It's not like there there is a ban on air conditioning or anything. I'm What are you suggesting forcing people to get air con Units. Making the government pay for it? 🤷
June 25, 2026 at 5:08 PM
No I'm looking right at it.... 3,000 people on road per year we don't ban cars. Something's got to get you. 🤷
June 25, 2026 at 4:43 PM
True, they are becoming more common.
June 25, 2026 at 4:39 PM
Not really... The reality is in northern Europe. In any given year has about 5 days a year where it might be really uncomfortable, about 10 days that I might be mildly uncomfortable. 15 days a year isn't enough to justify the expense. Less then 5% if the year.
June 25, 2026 at 4:15 PM
And I don't disagree, I just don't think trying to drag people down and deny children opportunities is the way forward. Id rather the private schools take on the most unfortunate children in our society those in care.. maybe break the cycle for care kids whose outcomes are awful by and large.
April 6, 2026 at 7:09 PM
No and I get that, but for me in think there are other ways the government can exploit the private sector, say each year has to take in a number of kids in government care. For example.
April 6, 2026 at 5:47 PM
In mean you say that, but that highlights a level of naivety with the greatest of respect on your part, believe you me there are loads of parents that either lack the will or ability to help with school with school work, or actually give a damn about their children's education.
April 6, 2026 at 5:43 PM
But then again, having active parents at home will improve results for children so no matter what your ideological position parents can have their children Jump the que by virtue of their time and effort. So for childern in school it's a lottery.
April 6, 2026 at 4:17 PM
I don't agree I'm afraid. They'll either reach high achievements or they won't. Private education isn't some stamp that automatically gifts results, the young people need to achieve the grades all be it easier.
April 6, 2026 at 4:17 PM
Yeah I'm not one for overly taxing private schools... Of all the things rich people spend their money I'd rather they spend it on educating their kids.
April 6, 2026 at 2:55 PM
Nope not for me. You're just not serious
