I might be flirting with blasphemy here, but I just realized that there are 40 days between memorial and independence days and, given the big number in the 4th and my waning excitement about being American, I’m wondering if there are any patriotism-renewing practices I can do in lent-like

This poor book. Destined for a lifetime of waiting for pickup.

Man, Du Bois had some bangers, but for me, it doesn't get much better than his scathing indictment of the "Christianity" of the United States.

Certainly this was all true of the nation in his lifetime. But in my lifetime, his criticisms have never felt so true of the nation right now.

At happy hour, sitting near a couple on a date. He is reading from the book of Judges, pausing periodically to mansplain the difference between the Israelites and the Philistines. She accidentally (???) touched his phone screen, closing the app. He scolded her for carelessness. Odds of another date?

Dear Manager, here’s what I’ve done this week:
1. Picked
2. Grinned
3. Loved
4. Sinned
5. Played my music in the sun
Dear Manager, here's what I've done this week:

3. Plotting a course
4. Fighting, biting
5. Riding on my horse.
Dear Manager, here's what I've done this week:

1. Found myself living in a shotgun shack
2. Found myself in another part of the world
3. Found myself behind the wheel of a large automobile
4. Found myself in a beautiful house with a beautiful wife
5. Asked myself, “Well, how did I get here?”

Thanks, @courtneyellis.bsky.social I’ll see your prompt for pastors, and raise you a plea to friends, neighbors, and extended family members. Even a quick text has the power to ease the loneliness and grief.
Pastors: it's a great day to check in on the widows in your congregation. Valentine's Day can be a hard one, especially that first year or two alone.

After the last 10 days, I’ve adapted Dry January to mean I’m drinking Chardonnay instead of Riesling.

This afternoon my daughter told me that she wanted to sew some satyr pants, but I heard “Seder pants,” and the fact that neither of us questioned the existence of our respective pant tells you a lot about about my daughter and me.

Why has nobody invented a square mattress, so you’d never have to wrangle a fitted sheet only to discover you’d started on the wrong corner?

Finished my first meeting of the day before realizing that not only was my shirt, which I have worn before, on backwards, I still had a price tag dangling from my armpit. So professional. 💅🏻
