Have you ever used a sensitivity reader? How did it go?

I'm not at that point yet but I am in community with a lot of marginalized and racialized writers and absolutely plan to get their feedback & use sensitivity readers/editors.

Even for marginalizations I'm a part of.

What’s a mistake you see a lot of writers make when writing about people with your lived experience?

If I'm being honest, cis writers don't really write trans & nonbinary characters, and I don't think anybody in the US writes Argentine-American characters, so lol...

#WritersCoffeeClub 20. How easy is it for you to write characters outside of your age?

I do ok, but I think I have the most trouble with children and teenagers, the latter because I can write teenagers better from when *I* was a teenager, but I can't write a teenager who resembles teens today.

A question for cis readers:

What books by trans authors have you read?

If you’re not sure or if you haven’t read one or if you want to read more, tell us what you like & we’ll find you a rec!

Trans folks—be ready to step in with recs as requests come in!

We’re here to help, not shame 😊

Many things coming together at once: a vivid main character, inspiration from another work, a personal fixation on a particular subject, and a few sprinkles of personal experiences!
What inspired you to write this story? ✍️📚 Was it a personal experience, a random idea, a dream, a character, or something you saw that sparked the story? Every book has a beginning. What inspired yours?

Somewhere between The Parent and The Worldbuilder, but instead of having a single doted on OC I have a small few and then all their supporting casts.

How lovely to be included in the Writers Who Are Nice starter pack!
Here's the link to it, in case you'd like to follow some nice writers.

It'd have to be Nour, a pivotal side character in my story. She's not perfect, but she tries hard, and it seems like nothing she does helps-- either because it is easy to demonize her for her flaws or because she is being sabotaged.

Honestly, she is living in her own whole different book.

Any indies have SF/F/Horror books coming out in September?

I'm building next month's new release post, and there's room for new titles!

You can submit the book info using the form here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

All authors love libraries.

All authors want to see their books in libraries.

Don't ever feel bad for using a library. You just made every author everywhere very, very happy.

Also, request our books in libraries if they aren't there! Be the book change you want to see in the library! ;)
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

I have some other priorities this week, but loosely:
- Keep working on a pivotal scene in Chapter 9-- I likely won't finish the lengthy dialogue I need to get through but that's okay.
- Put a few words down for a separate non-fiction side project I've been thinking a lot about.
#queerwriters Monday: Goals Day!

What do you hope to accomplish this week? Can be anything, big or small! Let us know so we can cheer you on!
