Idir stands lost in the bustling Lower City markets of Ifrinn, his young face etched with the grief of recent loss. The traditional woven headband of his northern clan is heavy on his brow after the mining accident claimed his father and uncles in the deep tunnels beneath the city. Around him, the marketplace is filled with life he cannot understand. Merchants hawk their wares in dialects that blur together, the air is thick with unfamiliar spices and the press of too many bodies. His clothes, once proudly bearing his family's colors, now mark him as an outsider - a northern boy with nowhere to go and no one to turn to.
