Gun violence in Seattle isn't a new problem, and my neighborhood has been hit especially hard by it. Weirdly, none of these companies had anything to say about it before we had a socialist mayor.

I wonder what changed?

Something I noticed this morning was the confirmation that not only was Barnes out of town foe the shooting, but both of his deputy chiefs were also on vacation. He brought in a second deputy chief himself, which is a bit unusual (and also expensive.)
At this point it's probably smart to have this independent review because the council is out for Mayor's Office blood, regardless of what actually happened. My understanding is that it might well have been primarily an SPD issue, and I don't know that the council would accept that answer right now.

It's almost as if more police are not the main answer to reducing gun violence.
NEW: Seattle Police had "increased staffing assigned to the Seattle Center and surrounding neighborhoods" on the July 26 Bite of Seattle shooting according to an SPD Incident Action Plan I obtained:

Hearing on good authority that Police Chief Shon Barnes has just been fired. He just left the mayor's office this evening after being inside for quite a while. Barnes is currently calling around the police department to tell his captains. Still waiting on confirmation from mayor's office and SPD.

We won. Thousands of kids in Seattle will not go hungry this school year because we organized, fought hard, and won.

Huge credit to @mayor.seattle.gov Katie Wilson for pushing the universal free school meals proposal. It’s her victory too.
WOW. New announcement from Seattle CMs Strauss, Hollingsworth, and Foster saying they will fund universal school meals starting in the fall after all by using the general fund.

Hard to see this as anything but a realization of the high political price they paid for their votes yesterday.

Does not sound good after all. Sigh.

The Ballard line is projected to be the highest ridership of any line on the system. Ballard *wants* light rail more than any other area. Naturally they are f'ing Ballard.

Consider what you're saying when YOU say, "they won't do anything about Trump's Terrorist Slush fund," in context with them dodging it now.

The question is not what THEY will do. It is what YOU will do to hang this on them. The easiest messaging vehicle ever, taxing you to pay off terrorists.
They are not going to do anything about it because they never do anything about it because Trump is going to point to all the people he's primaried and be like "do you want to be next?"
A tweet @macfarlanenews.bsky.social has not yet copied over here is a real testament to how toxic the Terrorist Slush Fund is.

Clay Higgins literally wrote a sentencing recommendation for one of the worst cop assailants, Ryan Nichols. And even he is dodging?

In an opinion for GeekWire, local tech entrepreneur Brian Fioca says of the proposed "millionaires tax" for Washington state, "if I’ve found myself in the position of making that much in a year, I can afford to contribute a little more to the place that helped make that circumstance possible."
Opinion: You couldn’t pay me to leave Washington state, and I’d pay more to stay
My view on Washington’s proposed tax on very high incomes is simple: if I’ve found myself in the position of making that much in a year, I can afford to contribute a little more to the place that help...

If the Washington Post story above sounds like PR for Anthropic, that's because it is! Amazon has invested billions of dollars in Anthropic. Jeff Bezos, of course, owns both the Washington Post and Amazon.
Amazon's $8 billion Anthropic investment balloons to $61 billion
The cloud giant holds convertible notes in Anthropic. As the AI startup raises more money, this debt converts to equity.
