After a dry summer, fucking in the autumn, Reflecting among arabesques of speech that arise The certain anomaly, the wise smile Of winter fitted over the land And your activity disappears in mist, or translates too easily Into a general puree, someone's aura or idea of games— The stone you cannot perfect, the sharp iron blade you cannot prevent.

308 THE DEAD ENEMY 3. vii. 17 The dead men looked wonderfully beautiful. The night was shining gently down, softening them into new ivory. Turks were white-skinned on their clothed parts, much whiter than the Arabs; and these soldiers had heavy ey yoen, in Cose shed then themed rhe dak parted de sea-spray. The corpses seemed fung so pitifully on the ground, huddled anyast. Solpheape almo if eroightened they would be comfortable So I put them all in order, one by one, very wearied myself, and longing to be of these quiet ones, not of the restless, noisy, aching mob up the valley, quarrelling over the plunder, boasting of their speed and strength to endure God knew how many toils and pains of this sort; with death, whether we won or lost, waiting to end the history,

Two scandals brought down PTL in 1987: Bakker was accused of sexual misconduct by church secretary Jessica Hahn, which led to his resignation, and his illegal misuse of ministry funds eventually led to his imprisonment. 18] Bakker was dismissed as an Assemblies of God minister on May 6, 1987!211 In 1990, the biographic television movie Fall from Grace, starring Kevin Spacey as Bakker, depicted his rise and fall. 22. On January 18, 2019, ABC's 20/20 aired a two-hour special, entitled Unfaithfully Yours, about the PTL scandal. 23]

If you like Lawrence of Arabia, you owe it to yourself to carve out some time and read Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The film is obviously spectacular, but it doesn’t have the dimensional depth of this.

The bed of the valley was of fine quartz gravel and white sand. Its glitter thrust itself between our eyelids; and the level of the ground seemed to dance as the wind moved the white tips of stubble grass to and fro. The camels loved this grass, which grew in tufts, about sixteen inches high, on slate-green stalks. of it until the men drove them in and couched them They gulhed down bangi Attics moment I hated the beasts, for too much food made their breath stink; and they rumblingly belched up a new mouthful from their stomachs each time they had chewed and swallowed the last, till a green slaver fooded out between their loose lips over the side teeth, and dripped down their sagging chins.

I think about this at least a few times a year
"Man of Steel" star Michael Shannon is "so utterly unconcerned with the outcome" of "Batman v Superman." "So profoundly, utterly unconcerned," he told Vulture when asked which superhero would win in a fight. "I can't even come up with a fake answer." However, if the actor who played bad guy General Zod absolutely had to choose, he would vote for Henry Cavill's Superman, because "he killed me." "I guess I have to root for Superman because he killed me, so I would hope that he would continue his killing spree and become like a serial killer Superman," he added. "That's a new take on Superman. We'd all be in a heap of trouble if Superman was a serial killer. He could just wipe us all out. But then he'd be lonely." "Isn't he already lonely," the interviewer asked, to which Shannon responded, "Well, we're all lonely.

Desert lava

From T.E. Lawrence’s Seven Pillars of Wisdom

We halted there for the night, sleeping for six hours, a long luxury upon the road, though this rest was broken twice by challenges from half-seen mounted parties who had found our bivouac. Afterwards we wandered among more small ridges until the dawn showed gentle valleys of sand with strange hills of lava hemming us about. The lava here was not the blue-black cinder-stone of the fields about Rabegh: it was rust-coloured, and piled in huge crags of flowing surface and bent and twisted texture, as though played with oddly while yet soft. The sand, at first a carpet about the foot of the dolerite, gradually gained on it. The hills got lower, with the sand banked up against them in greater drifts, till even the crests were sand-spattered, and at last drowned beyond sight. So, as the sun became high and painfully fierce, we led out upon a waste 107

It was indeed a remarkable town. The streets were alleys, wood roofed in the main bazaar, but elsewhere open to the sky in the little gap between the tops of the lofty white-walled houses. These were built four or five stories high, of coral rag tied with square beams and decorated by wide bow-windows running from ground to roof in grey lattices, and some very delicare shallow chiseling on the panelsod window casings. The doors were heavy two-leaved slabs of teak-wood, deeply carved, often with wickets in them; and they had rich hinges and ring-knockers of hammered iron. There was much moulded or cut plastering, and on the older houses fine stone heads and jambs to the windows looking on the inner courts.

By her indifference 1 am broken: dark-eyed gazelle among her leafage, stars that burn on her horizon, depth of night shining moon, rock, then jonquil in her garden, bushes too that spread perfume, all know me downcast, wasted as a man, and are concerned by my appearance, how it mirrors my state of mind; they ask if I may not be well, flaming desire might burn me out. Woman, you do that he should look You say: 'What hurts? What do you want You're less than just everyone knows it, your lover wrong as you've been told. What's going on? but cannot wait for? to doubt my love, here or distant.' ask him to pardon sick with love others puny. Give thought to this: and I cannot. to God for pardon: your injustice. Slaves led the mounts of the gray-haired women wrapped in their black shawls. When they uncovered their tattooed faces their silver-capped teeth shone and heavy perfumes floated out. Their belts were covered in gold, and fat silver bracelets showed beneath the hems of their wide sleeves. She was at the center of the gathering, on top of her pillows, laughing with delight. "What exactly is going on?" "No one knows."

Identity in Relationship What differentiates marriage to paternal kin from other types of marriage, and how are the differences evaluated? For most, the advantages do not have to do with sexual excitement. Indeed, some older men complained that the "marital" (sexual) side of such marriages was limited. As one polygynously married man put it, "My other wives are better with me personally," although he went on to explain that he nevertheless preferred his cousin-wife, for reasons to be enumerated below. Certain young men complained that the trouble with marrying a cousin was that she was like a sister.2 An unmarried man mused, "You won't feel like talking and flirting. And she knows everything about you, where you go, who you see." He implied that she would therefore not be in awe of her husband, reducing the power differen-tial. Girls occasionally voiced a wish to see something, new by marrying an outsider, since then they would leave the camp. They did not talk (at least to me) about the sexual aspect of marriage._
