POEM 335: "Roadrunner as my heart" by Eliza Fixler (@elizafixlerpoetry.bsky.social)

"Can feel an opening, bash in
the head of the snake, she wasn’t made

to stop and think. The tip
of its tail will hang from her beak

for hours"

Every time I get a poetry submission rejection (often) I have an overwhelming urge to respond "why? >:(" and maybe that will be my new move!

If your boss or company tells you to do something unethical: don't say yes. Make them write it down.
If they won't put it in writing yourself. Send an email (bcc yourself?): "Following our conversation on x date at x time regarding x, I am writing to clarify your directives. According to my notes, you instructed me to A, B, and C. If any of this is incorrect, please advise. I have some concerns."

Doom brain reprieve: If you have two cats, it is important that one have a Food Name and one have a Human Name. Mine for eg: Salami and Valerie. Other pairings I find aspirational:

Wesley and Strawberry
Hotdog and Ursula
Phoebe and Crouton
Tofu and Janet

I welcome help expanding this list.

Revisiting old poem from first week of COVID lockdown, considering coexistence of isolation, alienation, horror & also a sort of heightened awareness of connection - connectedness of thought, connection to natural world. Includes Octavia Butler quote because she's always the one.

I sometimes use CBT with my therapy clients which is to say i stop all conversation, tauntingly wag my finger and sing Bing Crosby's "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive" from start to finish

Ever wonder what snow in the swamp would look like? This is 5 miles into the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya basin... it's unreal... having lived down there for the first 28 years of my life, we never saw anything like this.

Smashed records.
