Waiting impatiently for the Long Dark House bookstore to open.

And yes, I'm still finishing Nona the Ninth, and I have a couple other books on the shelf to read. I don't need another bookstore blocks from my house, but I wants it.

I want to give a shout-out to the Dangerous By Design report from Smart Growth America. Alexandria is implementing many safety projects, but the long-term trend for the region is pretty grim. Long-term fatality trend for the DMV is up 0.43. www.smartgrowthamerica.org/media/2026/0...

I just dropped of my primary ballot on my way home from the Traffic and Parking Board. If you live in Virginia, or any state with an active primary now, I encourage you to make your vote heard. Especially if you don't have a 'competitive' primary election.

Looking forward to a self-indulgently nerdy day today. I'm planning to go to Eastern Market to buy "Gideon the Ninth" that was recommended by a D&D Youtuber, Pointy Hat. Per reviews it's a lesbian necromancer gothic space-opera, so points for style? Then to the games store, and ending with pizza.

Interesting update from the City on the Beauregard Trail Feasibility Study. There's still a lot of work by staff to do, but it's looking like a good start.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

1.) Dramatically smaller, like dramatically. The equivalent of ICE/CBP to something like the Stazi would be like 15 million people.

2.) They can't operate in the shadows. Everything they do is filmed and disseminated immediately.

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.
