Thank you! I wish I could make artwork 😂 but I am very visual so have a lot of reference material from real world locations and I love using music as well. But in the past I’ve been known to hire an artist for some MC artwork just for fun as a reward for finishing a draft!

Ooooh I love it. I do volunteer archaeology and have advised other writers in the past on ruins or excavation type stuff to add authenticity to their scenes so let me know if you ever want to chat ruins 😂 but it sounds wonderful. And being able to make your own images is the dream.

What is the setting of your fantasy romance?
It does! The entire premise is around the master builders of the incredible gothic towns in Spain and Italy. It’s a fairytale type story (different from my previous projects) in first person present told from the POV of a mid-20s pauper who dreams of joining the stonemason guilds and building.

I’ve got my small writing group of pals I’ve kept in touch with throughout my break so I have them but I had such a big group on Twitter and I miss them! But many have gone on to be published which is great, though now I feel like I can’t necessarily randomly reconnect 😂

Adult accessible fantasy, current one is a gothic-baroque Mediterranean setting. I wouldn’t necessarily call it upmarket or literary-leaning but I’ve queried a handful of agents on that basis and they have responded very positively (requests or champagne rejections) so that might give a flavor! You?

I always find it deeply uncomfortable when criticism of someone’s beliefs or character descends to criticism of their appearance. The latter is not necessary nor does it add anything to the debate.

I like to buy nice birthday invitation templates for my toddler’s birthday then make printed invites but this year is was almost impossible to find an Etsy template for his theme that wasn’t AI. I had to search so many sites before finding one that looked human-made.

I miss the writing community that had built up on twitter in the 2010s. I moved to blue sky but it feels like there isn’t as much here, or it’s more fragmented, so I don’t often come on. But happy to see you here!

That would be amazing, thank you! I am looking for feedback on how the POV feels, and if it’s too much. I usually write third past but this is my first time doing first present. Also more generic ‘does it flow, is it interesting’ things as an opening since this would be sub package.

It’s so hard. I spent weeks clearly in a maybe pile for a handful of agents (dozens of queries skipped immediately before and after mine) but ultimately haven’t heard anything, so you’re smart to manage your own expectations! Hang in there as the silence is maddening 🤪
