Every time I teach a group of male players about roleplaying safety tools they'll joke about how ridiculous it is that someone could be so traumatised by spiders that they can't handle them being described during a session.

Every time I teach them to female players they say "Sexual violence".

Huge shoutout to my former colleague who, the day after the decision came down in 2010, told me Citizens United was going to be the end of this country. I did not believe you, but you were 100% right.

I think there's a microgenerational gap between older Millennials/young Gen-X and younger Millennials/Gen-Z on this - being old enough to understand the Matthew Shepard attack, not knowing any out gay adults, not having many queer kids at school - and worse if you grew up in an exurb/rural vs urban.
It's unhinged that so many people are digging out Pete Buttigieg's comment about how he didn't want to be gay as a teenager, but that he's glad now that no magic pill exists to make you straight, and twisting it into something completely divorced from what it was like to be a queer kid in that era.

If conservatives are so sure being a tradwife is what makes women happiest, then why are they hiding the middle aged tradwife? Why not show young women what their life would look like 20 yrs from now?
Where are they hiding the 47 year old tradwives??

So you know how the Obama Presidential Center just opened in Chicago on Juneteenth? How it not only has a library but a specific President’s Reading Room featuring books personally chosen by the Obamas?

NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT is one of those books.

Yes yes yes. I'd go a step further and say that in addition to ego and narcissism, sadism - the active joy in hurting people under your power - is a big factor as well.
Some bosses say full-time, in-person work boosts productivity or collaboration. “Our new research reveals that the objection to any work from home is more likely to be driven by something else entirely: ego,” write Adam Grant, Marissa Shandell and Courtney Elliott.

Something people still don’t grasp—in the US or the UK—is that getting an appropriate wheelchair is not as simple as a doc going “you need a wheelchair, here’s a scrip, go pick it out”.

For one thing, ableism and the bogeyman of “deconditioning” means some doctors would rather you fall.

All this to say if you decide someone is “faking” needing a wheelchair—

Nobody subjects themselves to this for fun. This is just the bullshit you deal with ACQUIRING it. The everyday frustration and the really egregious behavior when you’re out and about is another level.

Sometimes disabled people hold back talking about our experiences with ableism because we get called complainers or malingerers or fakers because nondisabled people with no experience have no idea. They genuinely think if you get disabled, it’s sad, but at least you’re taken care of.
