And - despite all the press talking them up this weekend - the far right Sweden Democrats in the exit poll have not only failed to come second but have seen their vote DROP by around 3%.

It is a tighter election than was predicted even just a week ago. The gap got considerably smaller over the final week. The irony of those seeking a Sweden of "the good old days", is that Sweden was dominated by the Social Democrats.

The current govt has been the most right wing in Sweden’s history. If those parties win majority again it could be a disturbing moment. A progressive win would mean Social Democrats in govt in 4 of 5 Nordic countries.

What's particularly interesting is the swing among 18-29 voters in Iceland: went from 60%+ Yes in June poll to 60%+ No in the final polls. Other age groups mostly didn't change.

Fishing accounts for ~40% of Icelandic export value, and ~8% of GDP. Anyone who knows Icelandic history can tell you about the Cod Wars. It’s a pillar of society & identity.
While not the only reason for what looks like a No vote, it’s hardly “unbelievable”. Icelandic politics is not UK politics.

Brace yourself for a lot of UK commentators, of both sides, trying to project UK politics for the result in Iceland. Most of whom probably had no idea the referendum was even happening until now.
