Former Australian Migration Officer here. This is the biggest nonsense I have heard since the last one. The reason the crowd left, peacefully mind you, is because they were not asylum seekers and never claimed to be. Except for about 1,000, none applied for asylum. They were victims of a disinformation campaign, spread via Meta media (Facebook, Instagram they said in interviews) that informed them Spain had opened its borders. So they made their way to Ceuta hoping to be allowed into Spain to work there. When they heard in Ceuta that this wasn't possible and the information they heard was wrong, they returned home. Which means this is not how you can treat asylum seekers. International law dictates that each claim has to be assessed individually. Because each person might be in peril, persecuted, seeking shelter. And in fact, asylum approvals in the UK show that the majority of applicants make valid, truthful claims.

A major newsworthy issue in Spain that was mainly ignored by the right wing media in favour of an immigration story on a Spanish border full of misinformation.

Might be just a coincidence.

EU could respond ala Michael Caine in the Italian Job, "there are about 1,2 million Brits living in the EU..."

"(my business is based on selling frictionless to France and Spain), so obviously I voted to leave" 🤦

"They didn't tell us what the consequences would be"

Always someone else's fault.
