Also. Norway: big fishing industry. Makes some sense for Norway to stay out of CFP but have e.g. financial sector under EU regs. See also Iceland. Doesn't make sense for UK to stay out of CFP but have City regulated by EU.

Could be. Who knows, one of these days ...
September 30, 2026 at 11:11 AM
I will have to take your word on that one.

I just come by train, walk to the office. The areas I pass through by train do not inspire confidence in the competence of whoever runs the city, or its 'communes'.
September 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM
But you ever lived there, you know it better than me.
September 30, 2026 at 10:55 AM
I will spare you my opinion of that city. Only come there for work.
September 30, 2026 at 10:54 AM
No. Belgium. No Irish connection whatsoever.
September 30, 2026 at 10:47 AM
I do follow these conversations. You might say it's a bit of a hobby.
September 30, 2026 at 10:44 AM
Let me recap the convo. I reacted to a post where, as I understood it, you contrasted UK accession with Moldova, explicitly citing UK defsec as a reason. I disagreed. But now an article on potentially special, more flexible, arrangements for Moldova is evidence for your claim? Explanation needed.
September 30, 2026 at 10:25 AM
Why Irish?
September 30, 2026 at 10:17 AM
I'm not a rejoiner. I'm EU.
September 30, 2026 at 10:10 AM
You do realize the article is evidence against your claim?
September 30, 2026 at 10:07 AM
I will allow you this fun. That's the kind if guy I am. Even though I don't understand why. Again: no mention of UK's world-class defsec capabilities in the article as being in anyway relevant to the propsal. But I appreciate you take your pleasure wherever you can find it.
September 30, 2026 at 10:03 AM
All I ever tried to say was that defsec capabilities are not relevant to EU membership. Last I looked, Moldova does not have nukes and is not in 5 eyes. Q.E.D.
September 30, 2026 at 9:54 AM
Please explain how this article, from which UK is conspicuously absent if I am not mistaken, is relevant to our discussion. I don't see it. (It does mentioned Moldova, to which you contrasted UK as a different prospect.)
September 30, 2026 at 9:38 AM
Ok. Let me try. In your opinion, would it be rational for EU have a more positive or flexible attitude to UK accession because UK is an important defsec player in Europe?
September 29, 2026 at 4:55 PM
So my interpretation was correct? You do think it would be rational for EU to consider UK defsec for UK EU accession?
September 29, 2026 at 4:16 PM
... of UK EU accession. Was I wrong?
September 29, 2026 at 4:09 PM
You said something like
"UK is a different prospect for EU enlargement than, say Moldova and Norway - in both good and bad senses.
UK's defence/security chunk makes a huge difference to EU capabilities."
I understood this as you saying it would be rational for EU to consider UK defsec as part ...
September 29, 2026 at 4:09 PM
How has my position changed?
September 29, 2026 at 3:43 PM
Pot. Kettle. Black. You are very sensitive for someone who accused me of decrying UK for not wanting to pool defsec sovereignty when I went out of my way to make clear that is not the case. As to reading comprehension: I seriously doubt that you are able to repeat my position back to me.
September 29, 2026 at 3:26 PM
You've claimed this would help with reset and rejoin. When I asked for an argument you said "I don't know". Claiming is not the same as making an argument.
September 29, 2026 at 3:02 PM
No. You claimed EU should value UK defsec capabilities as a huge addition to its own. I want to know why EU should care. It's fine if you don't know, neither do I.
September 29, 2026 at 2:41 PM
That's not exactly a convincing argument for your position, if you don't mind me saying so. Unlike when we discussed EUR membership some time, I don't think you have much of a case here.
September 29, 2026 at 2:26 PM
Let's conclude on my initial question first. I see 3 options. A) You think UK would not add to EU defsec capabilities. B) you think UK would add, but can't say how. C) You do know how UK would add. (If C) please state how, not what. I accept UK has nukes and is in 5 eyes.)
