I think we'd see a lot more urgency about regulating AI in Silicon Valley if the AI agents suddenly developed a sense of restorative justice, and instead of them threatening humanity with total extinction, they just wanted to redistribute wealth and reverse power hierarchies.

Here's what I think about Trump's pledge to give everyone $5,000 if he wins the midterms:

It's as real as Trump's promise to lower costs on Day 1.

Check the receipts from Groundwork for the 15 times Trump promised Americans $$$.

Remember the DOGE dividend?

Starting in October, Trump’s so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act will shift billions in SNAP costs from the federal government onto states, some of whom could be forced to deeply cut or even shutter their SNAP programs altogether.

Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be.

Cruelty against the homeless is an unaffordable luxury. Abandoning homeless people to avoid offending the Protestant work ethic is an unaffordable luxury.
ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.”

We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words.
