The hardest part of being in technology is changing people's minds.

Stubborn is not a strong enough word.

After several years of training teams and working with my own teams I am convinced that, for any product larger than a POC, writing tests first is faster than writing no tests.

My team says "thank goodness we have those tests" at least once a day. Every day their belief in TDD, CI/CD, feature flags, and mobbing gets reinforced.

You are not your customer. Do not replace their needs with your intuition.
You are not your customer. Imposing something that you imagine your customer wants is a kind of bullying. IME, it's best for changes to come about through customer collaboration, not forcing your ideas on them.

I wish Junkyard Wars was still a thing on TV.
Does anybody host build challenges that aren't shell challenges anymore?

People look at me weird for doing so, but I hate the restrictiveness of shells and it kills my creativity 😅

If you know of someone who does non-shell challenges I wanna know 👀 #TheSims4

Forced updates are the devils work.

I love when my Kindle (an e-book reading device) automatically installs an update, restarts, and then is suddenly incapable of opening e-books I just bought.

I really love getting software updates for the device that hasn't needed any form of new functionality or features in the 6 years I've had it

RDBMS's really are a great way to persist data and fit many scenarios. But CSV and JSON files are also quite good.

Use the simplest possible thing that could work, not the thing with a bunch of bells and whistles just because it has them.
I've wasted too much time trying to do things in No SQL document databases like Mongo.

Would have been far better to default to PostgresSQL / SQLite. If one thing you build turns out to be better suited to something else you can change it later. More difficult to go the other way.

Just use SQL.

I'm bored, sad, and lonely, the only obvious thing to do is switch all of my debian systems from bookworm to trixie.

The truth is, once you learn one programming language, others are a lot easier to learn. Also, the more depth of knowledge you have about the one language the easier it will be to learn others. Never feel bad for what you know, no matter how small it seems.
sometimes I feel like a moron because I haven't really learned any programming language besides python but then I remember there's people my age that don't know how to install an ad blocker and that makes me feel slightly better about myself

You can't make a story too small as long as you keep it vertical.
Regarding estimation for your day-to-day work. "Can we make this smaller?" is a very different question than "How big is this?" Just repeat the former until the answer is no, then throw out the small things that aren't worth building and build sequentially in value order.
