their name also comes from the hope that one day humans will flourish once more in this digital existence, with 'floral' and 'flourish' sharing the same originals in the Latin language.

Floral! An archive of all human history designed to survive the total apocalyptic digitisation of the real world. While a girl is usually named after one type of flower this little librarian holds records of every single one; thus the name Floral :D

Wow that was a really good finale that felt like a natural end point to the Diamond arc by combining action with Steven’s use of mass empathy as a superpower that doesn’t unrealistically resolve everything neatly but does let the status quo of homeworld and the Diamonds crack and potentially change

The thing is that I can close my eyes and imagine a version of Wolverine that plays like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, where there’s so much emphasis on the speed and slashing and dismemberment mechanics

Don’t remember who said it but I saw someone comment that Wolverine’s main power set (slashing things really well and healing powers) are stuff basically all action games have nowadays, so you gotta have a really juicy gameplay hook to get that “it makes you FEEL like <superhero>” selling point

It does seem like something different, yeah. It seems like it’s a thing where Last Of Us 2 was six years ago and Sony hasn’t released a lot of AAA games that differ substantially from its gameplay style, so Wolverine has a lot of “Sony-isms” but without a unique element to make it as palatable
i mean yeah but it also seems like something’s different this time around. people were fine with that kind of thing in the last of us 2 a few years ago. I haven’t played it but Wolverine seems like it’s overcompensating in ways those other games don’t

I'm thinking about the recent Resident Evil games, and how they've got these big set pieces and snarky protagonist Leon but also how they don't mind you occasionally getting lost or letting you figure out what you want to do next and Leon isn't narrating everything for you as you explore

It's why you get so much "Focus M" and characters talking to themselves or slow walking and talking hallways. These games aren't allowed to be truly quiet, to let players go in circles and get lost or explore in silence because they always need SOMETHING happening on screen that seems like progress

It's interesting because under normal concepts of story pacing, this would be considered "downtime" as you cool off between set pieces. But I'm thinking of game downtime as like when you get lost or stopped in a level and no story progress is being made. A lot of AAA games are afraid of having this
But also it sounds like there’s a lot of walking and talking. It’s a weird mix of problems.

The backlash to Insomniac's Wolverine is fascinating. It really does seem like a natural endpoint for these story focused linear blockbuster games, where you're so concerned about pacing your $300 million narrative experience that you have to get rid of anything that could cause friction or downtime

The Jerk is a really goofy, raunchy and absurd comedy that also pauses for three minutes so that Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters can do a really beautiful and sincere cover of Tonight You Belong To Me. It's such a lovely intimate little moment that you wouldn't expect a comedy to commit to

When looking for unique places I could place my VN I landed on Catalonia, specifically the deeply rural locations where witch trials could have historically been carried out by locals in small communities. There was also plenty of lore to cover with ancient humanity.
