Hiding it as a sprite is pretty tricky with modern data mining, but writing it into shader code for one release is very doable.

I love it when there is crunch that is properly supported by and supports its world.

Mech engineer springs to mind, with the test range metal plate sound effects while you page through the bestiary trying to figure out damage/AP number optimization. Its not 'just there', its there for a reason.

I hear you, but there is a lot of fun in creating optimization puzzles.

Some people will just jam assemblers in factorio until the conveyors look full, and some will look up how much time it takes to make each component and really care about how a +10% speed changes factory ratio. Both are fun.

I liked it in the newer XCOMs. Planning around 'what if I miss, how can I play the odds better' was the whole game.

For that to work you have to have meaningful consequences for missing that aren't just 'everyone wastes time', and a fairly solid game design.

The heritage foundation (the guys organizing the American Fascist movement) openly stated that the Trans rights talking points exist to roll back title IX (sex discrimination) protections.

Politicians aligning themselves with the Fascists is the whole problem.

Marauder BA and a clan lance. Nice.

Do a settings screen popup at game startup, but right at the top include a 'continue from last save' button, and let players edit the INI while it loads.

If you are feeling brave, record how long it took to load the game last time, and throw up an estimated loading timer. Instant QOL.

Posting AI is just announcing 'these are my standards, and boy are they low'. People will block and move on.
September 13, 2026 at 9:54 AM
People that are big on AI are gonna have to start fresh social media accounts because of all the people who block them assuming their account is pure junk.

If listeners want AI, they have AI directly. Being a middle man is a waste.

Dawg its just not tagged as furry, and its big releases.

You've got stuff like Mouse: P.I. For Hire, Frontiers of Pandora, black myth wukong, Timberborn, cult of the lamb, random stuff like cat mail...

Scroll through the top sellers on steam and hit them before the third page on any category.

Space optimists betting on space colonization acts as an incentive to sabotage space colonization efforts to win those bets.

On a small scale this is marginal, but once a society as a whole starts betting on the future you end up actively funding outcomes you don't want.

Speaking as someone that likes real solutions - tilt monitors on your mount so they tilt upwards, put box on desk, put keyboard and mouse on box, stand up.

The rest is just finding the right size box, or sorting out monitor mounts if you're using ones you can't adjust.

I think its just harder to tell an exec 'no, we shouldn't do that, its a bad idea' rather than 'the tech isn't there yet'.
September 3, 2026 at 6:03 PM
We know that wasn't the plan because later iterations of that formula (space games with a matching project brief) try for realistic distances... then have to cut 90% of those distances out with fast travel because POI are too far away from each other to keep people engaged.
September 3, 2026 at 6:01 PM
I think that if you look at the kind of AAA commercial release trying for realism, the technical limitations guided games towards good decision-making.

Freelancer (03) was trying for realism but had to fight its tech pretty hard, meaning that star systems were flat and small, but dense with POI.

I am constantly reminded of casual xrays in shoe shores, so that you can see your bones all crunched up inside an ill-fitting shoe.

Yes xrays are useful. No, you should not put them in shoe stores giving everyone foot cancer, no matter how profitable it looks.

I OG nethack really hit on something with its randomized item descriptions and names, as well as secrets hidden in the documentation.

Even with deep lore exploring and understanding your own playthrough is still a puzzle.

I'm pretty sad roguelikes have dropped that aspect to become marketable.

Men just got the legal argument that they are 'by default' being discriminated against, without consideration of the risk of harm.

There is no way this ends well.
September 2, 2026 at 9:38 AM
The guidance now says that you can't deny men access to any mixed space because it is, by default, discrimination, regardless of how that space is labeled or used.

This is a massive expansion of mens' legal right to access women's spaces merely by changing their legal label to mixed sex.
September 1, 2026 at 4:32 PM
The issue is that the guidance appears to ignore both high court judgement on the interim guidance and the EHRC, which means the guidance itself is out of line with UK law.

I just bake my game state into save data, then map scene/system inputs/outputs so I can test them individually based on randomly generated saves.

If I can load into a scene or run a system while missing something essential, then I add a sanity check and figure out where my state model broke.

So, Godot has its own python-style scripting language called GDscript, which is straightforward to pick up (and export to html5) if you aren't looking to practice C++, so you should be able to dive right in.
