A trip last night to Manchester’s Northern Quarter to watch folk/country singer-songwriter, Nick Shoulders, at the Night & Day Café. Massively entertaining night. He only has only a couple of gigs this site of the Atlantic left, but worth catching when/if he visits again.
Stage photo of country musician Nick Shoulders. Shoulders is seated behind a bass drum playing a yellow electric guitar.

Stone (Butch) (2021) - Ro Robertson
A large pale jesmondite casting of the crevices between rocks splayed atop a steel structure. The overall effect is quite visceral. Quoting from the YSP website ‘[the artist] sees natural rock formations as queer forms and changing bodies. Stones are shaped by the process of erosion, which reveals new shapes and layers over time.’

Buddha (2000) - Nikki de Saint Phall
Colourful and voluptuous seated figure. The stone sculpture has been decorated with brightly coloured ceramics which have been grouped to create pleasing organic patterns. A single eye looks down on those in front of the work.

Riace II, lll & lV (1986-89) - Elizabeth Frink - Group of three life-size male figures. Their faces are white, which contrasts with the dark bronze. The scene has an undertone of menace. Inspired by 9th century BCE bronzes recovered from the Mediterranean.
