It was plot-relevant, to a character whose job it was to filter slop from reality before it got to Gensokyo but she got overwhelmed by the insane amount of slop.

You say they aren’t the same, but most of the time it works grammatically to swap the words out. “I went to the store today/quickly/again/recently”
Sure, they don’t end in ly, but they fit the sentence the same. Most of the time.
