1985 in dessert, breakfast, and candy: Blizzards, Strudels, and Sour Patch Kids

"The best Blizzard flavour of all time was Crispy Crunch, which was a better version of a Butterfinger anyway, and I haven't seen that on the menu in a dog's age."

1985 in music: Dire Straits makes an impeccable album and Glass Tiger sneaks onto my week's playlist

"Your Latest Trick is great and is a tribute to the lucrative career of saxophone soloists while the good times lasted."

1985's top-selling book The Mammoth Hunters full of prehistoric high school drama

"Some interesting tidbits about the emergence of humanity and early drops of civilization sandwiched in between plenty of Harlequin-style sequences."

1985 in movies: Back to the Future is still so very nearly perfect and Out of Africa impresses

"Why, after besting the bully beast, did George have one more obstacle? And why was it this maniacally laughing guy who cuts in on the dance?"

1985's top TV show: Cosby starts his dominant run

"It's a shame that so many people had to suffer from Cosby ... the least of which is that a show doesn't get to air or find an audience when lots of good people put a lot of good work into making it."

1984's Oscar winner: Amadeus, Amadeus, oh oh oh Amadeus

"As each scene and sequence was unfolding I was remembering parts that were about to unfold. I knew that my parents liked this one a lot, so it must have been a favourite for repeat viewings."

1984's box-office champ Ghostbusters never fails

"I loved it, of course. I didn't feel that way when I was 10, mind you. I was freaked out in the theatre and didn't make it until the end."

1984's best-seller The Talisman a solid tag-team effort

"One thing to be said for King's books is that he has a proven track record of coming up with pitchable hooks for series and movies. So - where's the movie, or more likely the show?"

I would've thought this cereal was more '94 than '84.

"I don't think I ate this much (or at all) as a kid, and it only became a favourite once I was paying rent and buying my own groceries. That's probably why I don't associate it with the 80s."
