I wonder if so many bands ( well.. students of rock.. mudhoney & primal scream) would have covered it if it hadn't been withdrawn.. good bit of myth making..

Strange to see where I live discussed so widely.. Walkley has been a Labour area for a very longtime. The last Labour councillor, Tom Hunt, was popular but was narrowly beaten at the peak of anti-Starmer-ism by the Green candidate. It wasnt a massive surprise that the seat returned back to Labour.

I read a fascinating blog years ago that compared 1. what the crowd heard on the night 2. what was recorded 3. the cleaned up version we know with overdubs. Unsurprisingly 1 & 3 are very different. Tried searching for the blog - but to no avail. Any ideas?

Good article.. though it could have been written ( and has been) anytime since the early 90s.. I think the main difference is how much younger party goers are..

The flip side is Starmer did well on the international stage ( barr the obvious Trump conundrum) but was disliked at home.. " you can't trust people, Jeremy" etc

I'd be interested how much Reforms recent leaning into full on racism was driven by their overseas paymasters. They must be getting edgy that their investment in Reform maybe ruined by Restore.

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of why the short-lived name change happened? I seem to recall ( probably in your fine book) Doug Smith dispelling the " getting out of the contract " story.

Any update on the footage from 1973? Think it was around time of the Urban Guerilla promo, possibly even exactly the same time.. can't recall if it was Wembley or a film studio.

I can understand ( tho not condone etc) renting a house for a big party.. but Highfield? Seems a bizarre choice.

It could be the bootleg has the wrong date on it ( the gig lists aren't always 100% accurate), or the poster was a recreation after the event with the wrong date, or they did two dates on 7 & 10( 70s tours were never straightforward!)

Getting rid of the pro European wing of the party ( which was substantial before Brexit) hastened the parties decline as a mainstream party.

I was at the Sheffield leadmill gig that the book opens with. Mark L wasn't in a good way, and the rest of the band would often cover the vocals, obviously used to it. If I remember correctly, he didn't come back on for the encore.
