ngl it makes me deeply uncomfortable how many trans people view (for lack of a better term) cisnormative gender presentation as intrinsically less authentic and honest than visible queerness

Between October 2023 and April 2024, Israel dropped more explosives on Gaza than were dropped on London, Dresden, and Hamburg combined during all of WWII.

The destruction of Rafah, which I believe is the city in this picture, did not begin until May 2024.
Google is updating its satellite images of Gaza. The comprehensiveness of effort required to reduce an urban landscape to this is beyond imagining. Literal carpet bombing.

Aaron posted a list of messages from users he blocked and hmmmmm it seems like "enjoy the camps" is only okay when it's against trannies

What even would justice look like in a world where rape and the damage it causes demonstrably lowers the quality of lives of its victims, across the board ostracising them from communities, chasing them out of jobs, keeping them stuck? I think it’s entirely reasonable to say an apology isn’t enough

RFK Jr just coming straight out and admitting that the purpose of genAI is to allow fascists to pretend that inconvenient truths aren't true. Sounds to me like a good reason to ban it at once!

I think a lot about why Wendy Carlos’ albums are out of print and her wonderful website is now reserved for having a friend of hers tell people to leave her alone. It’s so fucking heart breaking what the world does to trans women

They suspended a trans woman for pointing out Aaron's actual own words and the consequences thereof.

Meanwhile, I've been reporting a bigoted post for 10 fucking months and it's still up.

Tell me the people that run this place aren't bigots with straight face.

Move to a PDS that isn't owned by bsky whenever you can - you can migrate your data without losing followers, too. You cannot trust this platform to keep its word, but at least the data you create can still be yours. The BEST they can do is hide that PDS from bsky, which doesn't matter -
Saying you can threaten trans people with camps? That’s fine.

Telling the hard of trust and safety that there’s been an uptick in this behavior and telling him he’s to blame?

Verboten, you’re suspended.

Fuck this platform.

it is deeply funny (read: extremely not funny) how the spreadsheet that aaron posted about how hard it is to be the head of trust & safety includes multiple (!) examples of him being told to "enjoy the camps" and related expressions.

Almost Like That Sentiment Is Always Bad, Aaron.

I was 58. Sexually assaulted in 1979 in college, school "punished" him by telling me he was going to drive me home on weekends so I could get to know him. Sexually assaulted in 1982 at work, work "punished" him by telling me they fired him, only they just promoted him & moved him to another city.

My mother made confronting sexism her life's work, basically. It was fantastic modeling, and I've followed her example.

The costs are high, though. You can't care about whether you're liked. You have to stay cold and firm in the face of hostility. And it's physically dangerous at times.

The worst part is when you can't leave the situation (for whatever reason), you're often forced to endure the stress of an on-going threat and harassment until something "happens". See police & stalker cases.

Then when something (inevitably) does happen, it's "why didn't she say something/report it/leave?"

We are always under threat, but that threat is excused until it takes the form of violence & then we're blamed for it.

The good men, the friends and lovers even, say to me later "well why didn't you just tell that creep off" as though I wouldn't be accused of starting shit, as though they'd stand up for me and not interrogate me to make the creep comfortable instead. Experience tells me most men will do the latter.

It happens so often it can be hard to even see. Men having the same experience I am, but I hit a place where the attention becomes unpleasant. Inuendos start. I have to wiggle out of something I did not start (cautiously! trying not to upset any dangerous egos!) so I leave, while the men get to stay

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

one time in my 20s i was passing through another city and crashed with a guy i knew who was in love with my friend so thought it was safe. but he made an advance and i said no, so he started arguing with me. i didnt sleep a wink that night and stared from the couch at the kitchen knife on the wall.

a key reason why rape culture persists is because men do not fear reprisals from *other men*. they do not expect other men to care if they raped someone. they do not expect other men to treat them poorly. they believe that most men will doubt a victim's story and demand evidence.

So anyone else randomly (like 1 in 5) get the bug where you can't type? Like I get the reply page and the keyboard and then nothing I type shows up. This has happened for over a year. Maybe they should spend time fixing the app instead of trying to get revenge on the users with automated blocks?

"Rape accusations can ruin a man's life" is one of those "truisms" that cis men carry around that FEELS like it SHOULD be true, but much like "The police exist to serve and protect," it feeling like it should be true doesn't change the fact that it effectively never is.
