Until July 30, 2026 every morning for the last 17 years began this way. This is a screenshot of a video I had taken with my dog, Teddy. I still can’t get over the loss. I wake up in France w/o him…My heart still hurts. I miss him everyday. Grief is a process. Some days it just hits harder.

Recently visited the wine museum in Bordeaux “Cité du Vin.” Here is an exhibit that lets you explore the different scents produced in the wine making process. When you squeeze (what looks like a bike horn), then place your nose to the funnel, you get a whiff of what is featured in the glass dome.

Here I am in Paris. This trip I had time to think about my life and some of the realizations I had about some of the tough times. At my age, 56 I have learned, “You’ll never be good enough for the wrong person.” The French say, “ Pour la mauvaise personne, on n’est jamais assez.” Game changer!

As a Global Studies student, when I hear Trump wanting to re-name “Lake Ontario.” Geographic names aren’t merely labels! Names embody Indigenous history, colonial history, sovereignty & relationships between states. Trump’s nonsense is absurd.

Today I am leaving St. Émilion. We spent 24 hours here for a quick getaway before school begins on Monday. It is beautiful but small and I am looking forward to getting back to Bordeaux.

All summer I prepared for my new life abroad in France. I was also preparing my heart for a life without my trusted sidekick, “Teddy.” I was gifted over 17 years with this precious being. Though he never said a word, we shared a thousand conversations. Teddy passed away on July 30. ❤️

Bonjour! What do I think of Bordeaux? I have only been here a few days. The people here are so kind and warm. Some strangers on the street have smiled and said, “Bonjour.”

Well, starting a French group is not as easy as I thought! Difficult because my French is not very good!! In the fall I will be a full-time student at UCSB. Perhaps I will join the French group on campus? Life is about constantly making pivots until you find your place….

A couple of weeks ago, I graduated from SBCC with two AA degrees. Now I am off to UCSB to major in Global Studies! Lots of French classes ahead!
