英国到着後、最初に訪れた専門書店の一つが、ロンドンのWatkins Booksでした。
店内では、沖縄の女性祭司やユタ、イタコなど、日本の民間信仰に関係する書籍を調査しました。これまで実際に手に取る機会のなかった本も見つかり、書店の方に関連資料について質問することもできました。
九州の山岳信仰を背景とする嶽啓道を記録する上でも、日本各地の実践が、どのように研究され、どのような言葉で伝えられてきたのかを知ることは大切です。

As we document Gakkeido, which is rooted in the mountain traditions of Kyushu, it is important to understand how related practices from different parts of Japan have been researched and described.

We discovered books that we had not previously been able to examine in person and were also able to ask the booksellers about further relevant material.

One of our first research visits after arriving in London was to Watkins Books.
We explored publications concerning Japanese folk beliefs, including works relating to women religious practitioners in Okinawa, Yuta and Itako.

kiRin arrived in the UK early on 13 September.
After travelling into central London, we met with an interpreter over breakfast at The Wolseley Piccadilly to review the research visits, meetings, filming and training planned for the days ahead.

Through talks, dialogue and a guided tour, the event will bring Gakkeido Inori (Prayer) into conversation with the Museum’s Evenki collections and cosmology.
