That was the most embarrassing Glam batting display since, well, yesterday. If Byrom and Root don't get a chance at The Oval, you'd have to wonder why they are still the club.

antastic atmosphere for Katie Taylor's farewell. But what sort of ego must Adam Smith have to think we want to hear his voice over the crowd during her ringwalk? And in as the bell rang to end her career, some tone-deaf idiot DAZN decided to put up details of future fights.

Why are GB athletes wearing (at least) three different coloured vests in these Europeans? Surely there should be a rule to prevent that. But at least it's not as bad as the days when the front was a different colour from the back.

My apologies, Connor O'Riordan, maybe you have what it takes to be a pro cricketer after all. After two disastrous games, Glam fans finally saw a lively bowler today. Given our injuries (and the lack, so far, of an overseas seamer) perhaps he should get a chance in the Championship?

Glam have a new star. Not merely did Jack Hope-Bell hit a ton on his debut, but he displayed a temperament which suggests he will be no flash in the pan. Credit too to fellow-centurion Alex Horton who joined him at 54-5 and added an incredible 240.

Jose Legra, the Cuban-Spaniard who took Howard Winstone's world feather title in Porthcawl in 1968, has died, aged 83. I met him when Steve Robinson travelled to Madrid to fight Manuel Calvo 30 years later. Lovely man.

Watching Paraguay is like watching Stevenage in League One last season. Admirable in their own way, but the antithesis of football.

What an unbelievable win for Glammy! 41 off the last two overs and they did it. Can't help feel Lancs deserved it after the questionable sportsmanship of the run-out of McAndrew after he'd been hit.

@nickwebb2017.bsky.social I notice the stream scoreboard from Edgbaston has abandoned the fourth-innings required run rate - anything to do with you? Or is it evidence that others found it ridiculous as well? Could still do with knowing how many overs are left, though....

Sacha who? Brilliant performance by Cardiff to see off the Stormers after a shocking start and take their place in the play-offs.
May 15, 2026 at 8:42 PM
@nickwebb2017.bsky.social I feared that was the case. It seems the RRR is the default setting in the final innings, because it's useful info in limited-over games. I can't be the only one irritated and it must apply across all counties. Maybe you can instigate a nationwide call for a change?!!
May 10, 2026 at 3:56 PM
@nickwebb2017.bsky.social Hi Nick, I don't know if you have any influence on the scoreboard strip on the stream? But it's a little annoying that it no longer tells us how many overs remain, preferring to display the required run rate, which is completely irrelevant in the current context.

I know boxing is a business dedicated to selling chosen fighters, but Molly McCann's endless introduction was OTT. Her rival had to wait in the ring throughout this circus. I'm a tad disappointed Barry Jones didn't call out the disrespect to his fellow-countrywoman.

Amid the celebrations in Reading, it was great to see the joy of Callum Robinson. For all the talk he was mad at the manager for his lack of minutes, when BBM ran on, it was Robbo he went to hug first. BBM's care has meant a rare season without long spells out injured.

One good thing to be taken from tonight's show - you can have 10- and 12-round fights on the card without having to dream up ridiculous belts to go with them. Other promoters (and broadcasters) take note.

Llandovery College has produced some rugby greats - Alun Wyn, Gwyn Jones, George North, etc - but could Sacha Feinburg-Mngomezulu become the best of the lot? A hat-trick of tries in a record-equalling 35 pts for the Boks today. Sensational skills.

Watching the athletics and amazed that Brits Kerr and Wightman wore different colour vests in their 1500 semi. Why is this allowed? We learn to recognise each national colours in order to identify runners in these events.

On VJ Day, let us honour Cardiff boxer Albert Love, who died in a Japanese camp in 1943. He risked death to steal eggs for sick comrades, also giving them half his own rations. When he too caught beri-beri, he lacked the strength to fight it.

Plenty of old stars attending the World Test final at Lord's and plenty of TV cutaways to them watching on. So why oh why do the commentators not identify them? Are we expected to recognise them all, decades on?

@nickwebb.bsky.social Those of us even older than you (considerably) remember the original Tom Hark by Elias and the Zig Zag Jive Flutes in the 1950s.

I like a good stat as much as the next man, but bloody hell, Fletch, just tell me who's got the sodding ball!

@nickwebb2017.bsky.social I like Forfar 5 East Fife 4, but I prefer the North Walian version: Rhyl nil Ruthin nuthin

Ben Kellaway 181 not out - that's some maiden century. And another 21-year-old, Asa Tribe, scored a career-best 94. Glamorgan are like Cardiff City: they may have been a bit 'meh' for the past few years, but there are some talented youngsters to give hope for the future.

@nickwebb2017.bsky.social Larruping: Not just bat or boot against ball, but fist against head. Former world heavyweight champion Max Baer was known as the 'Livermore Larruper'.
May 10, 2025 at 10:54 AM
@nickwebb2017.bsky.social Is it the camera angle or has Guest taken a guard outside off stump to face Kellaway? It may be my imagination/deteriorating eyesight/delusion, but it has looked to me that more and more batters are asking for off or middle-and-off these days?
