Doom thinking is not helpful, life itself comes with an inescapable terminal state, so why do anything ? Or pick hobbies like art, sports that you enjoy, you can't become elite in them especially at 30 but at least you still enjoy them. So I am going to find out if I enjoy learning concurrency.

There is a wide gap between developers like me and engineers who build systems like the Linux kernel, postgres, kubernetes, contributors to Rust/Go etc. I've fancied closing this gap over the years, but the effort was never truly focussed. Given AI it seems pointless to learn these now.

Do the fundamentals of software engineering even matter now given AI? Despite having been a software engineer for last 8 years I have close to no idea about the hard parts i.e Concurrency, Distributed Systems. Years worth of bookmarked courses and papers lie buried in various systems I've owned.
