Beautifully put.
The biggest misconception about this era (from WW2 to the early 1970s) is probably US connections to Israel. Israel didn't become a proper US client state until 1973 - it fought the Six Day War largely without US aid, for instance, and American leadership tried to avoid Levantine entanglements.
And what influence did exist was episodic. The Baghdad Pact, the 1946 and 1953 Iran crisis and coup, and the Lebanon adventure under Eisenhower. Aside from that and even into the Reagan years it was an afterthought, like Trumpist INDOPACOM.

That's not true. Russia is the successor to the USSR which was the successor to the Russian Empire, etc. If you want to say the US has one of the oldest constitutional structures in the world, sure, but that's not the same thing as oldest country.
