This is a moral atrocity and it needs to be loudly condemned as such. There is a reason that democracies *don't* do publicly televised executions (and why many don't execute people at all): it inculcates and rewards bloodthirst, which corrupts the spirit and corrodes the foundation of the polity.

Imagine someone telling you they live in a mid sized suburb and saying "damn, you must be cool as hell"
i do in fact think that cities are better for people. they make us more informed and more interesting, and they produce an overall richer and deeper life. that's my opinion, but i have never seal-clapped for anyone to die in nuclear hellfire about it. maybe because city life made me better than that

This is especially insane given that the related helicopter crash will be fully investigated by the NTSB and based on those findings changes may result, and yet with the car crash we're just gonna say "oh the driver was drunk, better luck next time"
This is the six-lane car sewer where the crash took place. The State Senate just killed a bill that would crack down on drunk drivers and the Mayor of LA got a road diet like by calling in a favor with the legislature.

California is a pro vehicular homicide state. We're like chud states with guns.

Those thick-ass towels that rich people give you when you stay at their house, that's a prank right?

I'm so sick of the free transit thing. As if Metro wasn't burdened enough by it's own wasteful nonsense already, Bass is out giving it more slopulism to carry.
Check out @lintonjoe.bsky.social live thread of Metro State of the Agency event - Board Chair Mayor Bass previews her priorities for the year ahead, including more bus lanes & “fare-free” transit plan.
At Metro State of the Agency event right now at Union Station. Outgoing Board Chair Fernando Dutra speaks about accomplishments World Cup, A Line extension Pomona, D Line extension

Every airline safety video shows the "blowing into the vest" like this. But that can't possibly be how you're supposed to do it right?

Good morning. Someone is always going to make money on housing.

Personally, I think it is better for developers to make money building new homes for people to live in than for landlords and homeowners to continue getting rich off of artificial housing scarcity.

If I'm being honest, the collapse of the post-Cold War international order and the violent occupation of an American city are making it difficult for me to concentrate on housing policy.

Agree.

There should never have been a DHS. (Argued that at the time.) Nor the "Patriot" Act.

Every Democrat, every actual patriot, should start with abolishing the modern gestapo that is "ICE."
Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.
For the love of all that is decent and holy: abolish ICE

More fundamentally, the political tension in American cities right now is between a faction who exists to protect the rents of incumbent interests and another who is allergic to any idea of trade-offs because they think there's a magic button that eliminates scarcity and only they will press it.
I hate that we’re having to think in these terms, but the evidence seems to be bearing out that steep fare hikes are less damaging to ridership than service cuts.
2025 was brutal for US transit. Agencies faced budget deficits, flat ridership, and open hostility from the White House.

I wrote a series of stories outlining ways to help transit endure.

Lesson #1: Whatever you do, don’t cut service. Riders will leave – permanently.

OK, less contentious post:

You've been placed in charge of a movie studio, and have an unlimited budget to adapt any work of your choosing that has never been made into a live-action TV series or film. What are you picking?
