“Booker T. Spicely: Citizen, Soldier, Martyr, Hero,” is now on display at the Sonya Haynes Stone Center for Research in Black Culture and History at UNC-Chapel Hill. Pfc. Spicely was shot and killed by a white bus driver for resisting racial segregation on a Durham, NC city bus in July 1944.

This Monday, Jan. 12, 5 pm, the next iteration of the Booker T. Spicely Exhibition opens with a reception at Duke University's Classroom Building (East Campus), featuring Jazz vocalist Lois Deloatch , Sec of the NC Dept of Military and Veteran Affairs Jocelyn Mitnaul Mallette, and Tim Tyson.

On Monday, January 12, at 5 pm, the next iteration of the Booker T. Spicely Exhibition will open at Duke University's Classroom Building (East Campus, home of the History Dept), Second Floor. The opening will include music by Lois Deloatch and a talk by Timothy B. Tyson.

Yesterday, I attended a moving program at Duke Hospital. A plaque was dedicated to the memory of Maltheus Avery. After a serious automobile accident on Dec 1, 1950, he was transported to Duke Hospital, where he was denied admittance because of his race. trentcenter.duke.edu/unhealed-pod...
