This is over-simplified as it is. Kaoru can be seemingly annoying but she is very much a gentleman and will go out of her way to help, even if it means she needs to play another role; all for the sake of making people around her happy and inspired. Inside, she just wants to be like Chisato to others

Chisato hates this mask and makes snide remarks about Kaoru’s flirting when they meet again in HS (they arent even in the same school but bandmates know each other) and the majority of their event stories together to find their true selves again underneath their artificial mask/roles.

When they parted ways when Chisato moved away, Kaoru put on this mask, partly a self-defense/coping mechanism and partly to fulfill her wish to stand on a stage with Chisato. She becomes a theater kid and to this day wears her role even off the stage because the kid inside is too vulnerable.

Kaoru was a shy girl with low self-esteem, but she befriended Chisato when they were young (elementary school). She was impressed with Chisato’s strong will and professionalism (she is a child actress), and appreciates that Chisato looks out for her when her timidness made making friends difficult

Within HHW, she mostly behaves normally when with Kanon and Misaki. Otherwise, she keeps on playing her specific role.

Kaoru is another dont judge a book by its cover character, but the depths you must dig to find her notable stories are so buried in the annals of bandori history

I love Seta Kaoru to bits, but getting to know her will require a lot of reading that is outside of her band interactions. HHW is mostly crack and chaos. Kaoru’s real personality shows up the most in mixed events, especially when with Chisato.
