View from the top floor of my house where I’m trying to pick up Tinhead long barrow - it’s the tree clump on the hill in the distance.

I can across this building in Milan recently, known as Bosco Verticale or Vertical Forest. There are water pipes running vertically through the tower and irrigation lines feeding all those individual balcony planters. So it is a 26-storey automated garden.

I recently led a walk over Battlesbury and Scratchbury hillforts. I’ve never seen the landscape so dry. Even so, the scenery still had a thing of beauty about it.

I’ve moved over here for good now and hope to reacquaint myself with others I used to interact with on Twitter. I stuck it out for a long time over there but my time on there has reached the end of the road.

A recent walk up the local hill gave rise to this view. On the edge of Salisbury Plain I am looking across Luccombe Bottom to Bratton Camp. Just a few days after this the right side of the escarpment at Bratton had a wildfire.

Bradford on Avon looks splendid at this time of year

My Mum tipped me off the other day to watch the Christmas edition of Songs of Praise. It was filmed in this church in Croston, Lancashire which I only visited a few weeks ago. While visiting my mum for a week we took a cottage in Croston just across from the church.

Underneath those trees is a Neolithic long barrow on Tinhead Hill. It was excavated by John Thurnam in 1864 who noted it has been disturbed before but he did find human remains and shards of Windmill Hill pottery. This is one of 28 long barrows on Salisbury Plain Training Area.

I was up on Cradle Hill earlier, picking up my son from the rifle ranges up there and drove past Kidnapper's Hole....it reminded me of a walk I did up there on summer, which I've described on the website: www.hiddenwiltshire.com/post/kidnapp...

Although I'm known for being a Wiltshire lad, I actually grew up in the North West in the Lancashire / Merseyside hinterlands. I was up there a few weeks ago to visit my mum and took a trip to the beach at Crosby to see these Iron statues, 100 of which are permanently embedded in the sand.
