Lutheran pastor in Kentucky. CTX and CSL grad. Leaning into the best of LCMS heritage: strong commitment to sound doctrine, deep appreciation for the liturgy, and genuine concern for social and political issues concerning the poor and oppressed.
[Luther's] teaching about life as a Christian in this ruined creation not only allows for the real possibility of deep mental and spiritual Anfechtung in the Christian's life, but teaches us to receive it in faith, trusting in God's promise of help.

The Scriptures subject our body to our regenerate spirit, and make our body parts beholden to God (Romans 6:13). This alone is "life."

Modern morality degrades the body to the brute and animal level by giving the bodily desires full sway as being only "natural," amoral, as "living our own life."

This morality scoffs at the resurrection of the body. Its wisdom is: once dust, then nothing but dust forever.

I don't really have a point with this post, other than to celebrate this aspect of America. Go team.

I'd say we also have the cultural infrastructure. We as a people have been living with multiple people groups from the start. Admittedly, many sins have been and are committed on that front with little repentance; but nonetheless, the US is the US undoubtedly because of our mosaic past and present.

And here's the sermon:
Jesus Is God’s Yes in the Flesh
Being particular about how we tell the Gospel is good. Being particular about whom we tell the Gospel to is not good.

No, I have never heard of such a thing. There is a rite for an anniversary of ordination, but there is no mention, even, of vows.

Quotes like this are invaluable to me, because (A) they come from men clearly conservative theologically, so they cannot just be dismissed as "liberal," and (B) because they show the path for being narrow in theology yet wide in mercy in our own time

4 O lead me in the narrow way,
And from the fold let me not stray,
So when this mortal frame I leave,
The crown of life I may receive.

Text: Bartholomaüs Helder, 1585-1635
Translated: August Crull, 1845-1923
Suggested tune: most German hymnals paired it with Old 100th
