Just saw a commercial for Meta AI, the theme of which was about how AI isn't scary at all and is really a way for people to connect with each other. The music in the background? Five Years by David Bowie.
Which, in case you're not familiar with it, is a song about the literal end of the world.

I know very little about Kacey Musgraves' music, but I admire her skills in set design.

I worry sometimes that I'm turming into a self-centered judgemental crank, just like I was whan I was 25.

Went to the Brookfield zoo today. This gorilla, we were informed by a helpful volunteer docent, is Binti, who famously rescued an injured child who fell in the enclosure 30 years ago. Looked it up and weirdly enough, today is the exact anniversary of the incident. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binti_J...

Today at the zoo I also learned of the existence of the Arabian Sand Cat. If I hadn't seen this creature with my own eyes I would have thought it was AI created. It's SO CUTE!

Ontology - what is this?
Phenomenology - what's going on?
Just taking notes. I need to remind myself from time to time.

Saw Spiderman today - pretty good - but of the five trailers for action movies they showed, every single one of them used a slowed-down, reverbed classic rock song as the music bed. Every Single One. This trend has gotten out of hand.

From "Everybody's Book of Jokes and Wisecracks", published 1940:
"In Pennsylvania, we grow apples as big as grapefruit!"
"That's nothing, in New York I've seen three policemen asleep on a beat!"

I got nothin'.

You know, it's been since the 80s that Public Enemy has been asking us the question "What Time is It?" - finally, our political leaders have answered this plea.

When I crave beer, what I am really craving is what beer represents to me symbollically and emotionally. Any chance someone could manufacture a tasty but low-calorie version of that?

An exercise I find helpful in understanding the current moment - every time I see a headline with the word "AI", I mentally substitute the word "computers" into the headline and ask myself if that means the exact same thing as the original. Most of the time it does.
