when you view every interaction as transactional you see everything as a commodity for sale- including belief. the flaw of pascal's wager is looking at belief as something you can choose. belief is not a choice, and isn't something you can buy, or coerce, on the open market.

totally agree. when people who have repeatedly demonstrated a lack of interest in humanity tell you they want to reshape the world you are under no obligation to hear them out.

because all they have to offer is potential. and when you point out the shortcomings of the existing product it makes that potential harder to sell.

back in ye olden days when i got my undergrad there were a number of credits called 'electives' to study things outside of your major. a bit of sociolgy, philosophy and english literature can help you become a well-rounded person.

there are moments in the prequel trilogy that remind me why i loved star wars as a child- the darth maul fight sequence, the podrace, jango fett, and the opening sequence of ep. 3- but the amount of bad ideas and wasted time between them makes a real rewatch feel like a chore.

here in eastern canada oil furnaces are still very common. diesel is currently around $2.50 a litre, or about $9.50 a gallon. a lot of people are going to face hard choices this winter
