Some of our Steam accounts are old enough to drink and yet we can't buy games we could go into a store and buy without even being asked for ID because we're fully grown adults.

It could also be some kind of on-orbit ASAT weapon but, I dunno. The word 'kinetic' was used a lot, it's possible it could release sub-craft that can smash into other satellites.

In all likelihood it might be some kind of kinetic impactor. Basically a giant heavy mass (maybe tungsten) that can fly down at double-digit Mach numbers and bust a bunker. Information is pretty scarce on what they've actually launched.
Either way this blows. Weapons shouldn't be in space.

I'm not counting high altitude nuclear detonations either, like Starfish Prime, or the various anti-sat weapons. Those were ground/air launched.
Brilliant Pebbles/STI (hello Teller) are the closest projects I'm aware of that came to being installed on-orbit. But even those were highly conceptual.
