My language skills are atrocious. I know, big word for someone like me. I’ve been practicing. My English is ok. My Afrikaans is passable and if you speak to me slowly, my Xhosa is crude. For some reason I always have perfect recall and enunciation when it comes to swearing though This was my original thread yesterday.

The title is a little misleading. Don't show it to your mom. I’ve always had a rather large head. It has misled more than a few people into believing that I am in fact cleverer than I am. Including myself. But I’m just your run of the mill ADHD, nomadic spectrum dweller. So there are moments when it looks like I know what I’m doing and then there are moments when I am doing something which may or may not be related to what I am supposed to do.

Ask someone whether vegetables are healthier than chips and they'll probably answer correctly. Ask someone whether they should eat more whole foods and less processed food and they'll probably answer correctly again. The problem is that knowledge is rarely the issue. Every day millions of people make food decisions armed with more nutritional information than any previous generation. We have calorie trackers, meal plans, health blogs, influencers, diet books, nutrition labels and endless social media advice.

We call it weight loss but what we should actually call it is weight management because for some of us, people like me, you're managing your weight. I have always struggled with weight. When I was 6 years old, I developed Tick Bite fever that left me in bed for some time until doctors figured out what it was, and I was able to get some treatment.

There were three days of voting, peopled queued for hours, not a single incident of violence.

And they were everywhere, on your way to the office, you could stop over a pick up something. But the real convenience was straight after work on your way home, pick up a quick something and off you go.

I don't know how people manage to sit for every video request from faceless prospective employers. "Tell us about yourself in 30 seconds" an obligatory requirement to apply for a digital marketing director role. I responded with a firm No. I got a whatsapp for a short video about myself. Another No. How do I convey more than 2 decades of experience into a 30 second video?

Writing is an exercise in vulnerability. The fantasy, the imagination aside, it is a trip inside someone’s mind, exposure to their processes, their dark thoughts. I have tons of dark thoughts. All writers do. Most people do, they just find other ways of expressing them. Becoming parents, getting married, ascending the corporate ladder, serial killers, politicians. Ignore the order. Writers create scenarios and then try stitching it together with some logic that makes it interesting.

Other people having kids or not having kids. At a base level, I don’t care why you have kids or don’t have kids. To be frank, I’m more concerned why some people went through the effort of having kids when they treat having kids like Christmas puppies. But I don’t ask. Not my business. People gaining weight. Yes I have gone fat.

Stand ready to be judged! Kidding. I do need some help though. I need some information and I need to share, especially if you're single. Just for the record, I don't care how or why you're single. If you're keen to share your morning breath with someone happily ever after, split shelves in the medicine cabinet, have that special someone to attend functions and a name for the little space at Next of kin:

It works, but it’s not for everyone. Checkers jerked everyone’s chain with Checkers60, and then everyone and their pet beaver needed to deliver on the same day. The results have been mixed to say the least. The problem with same-day delivery is that you’re necessarily chasing price; you’re chasing convenience. Why would someone need to buy two bags of charcoal and 6 bottles of Sprite?

There will be fewer streamers and content owners. This is going to suck. Netflix started this when they offered low-barrier-to-entry entertainment. I say low barrier to entry, but you needed a streaming device and stable internet access, preferably uncapped. Over the years, there have been different items added to the mix to muddy the waters, but essentially, Netflix wanted to bring entertainment to people in a way that made entertainment accessible.

Let me say that I am a massive fan of Showmax. They have great content, they’re always up to date with the latest shows, and mostly they’re pretty affordable. ShowMax was always quality, and they had a marked distinction between parent company MultiChoice’s DSTV, which always limped along with born in Apartheid heaviness. For the last month, I have had to reset my password daily.

In 2004, I started writing The Rainbow Has No Pink. Handwritten on an A4 exam pad. I knew I wanted to write something. Originally, the story was supposed to open with a chapter where the main character kills herself via gunshot. It was a dark time in my life. I would start seriously writing it, every day in between blogging and job hunting, I wrote that book.

1989 will forever be etched in my memory as the year that everything changed. From watching the Toyota Top 20 with Patricia Lewis, to Fine Young Cannibals reaching number 1 with “She drives me crazy.” A theme song for the rest of my life. It was the year I was in Mrs. Kander’s classroom. Mrs. Kander was my class teacher and taught History and Afrikaans.

No social media professional or digital marketer takes kindly to their work being audited. Especially where that audit is requested by higher-ups, and because there is something personal that goes into managing social media. As a good friend told me, “You need to work on your bedside manner.” I don’t remember when I started being blunt about things or having it come across like I thought the next person was stupid, but that’s what I was told, and I have been actively working on “adding a spoonful of sugar” to my audits and recommendations.

Much has been written about the general state of the Internet. My blog post will probably contribute to that pollution, but here goes. Maybe it's time to switch it off, just a for a few days, give people a chance to reset. The more of the Internet is accessed, the more you realise there need to be a qualification for the Internet, like a basic understanding of logic and human rights and what constitutes a lie.

I want to tell you that in a month or two, you will move on and forget about this trauma. But you won’t. Because there are lessons to learn. I don’t profess to understand everyone’s challenges but these are mine. A year ago, I was angrier than a bear being poked with something pointy. I had some good and decent friends tell me to let go, but I was only ever going to let go when I had figured how to pay them back.

Growing up brown is a mix of experiences. In the past, allowing your daughter to finish high school was a sign of wealth and liberal parenting. Marrying another brown person out of your caste? This family thinks they’re white. Marrying outside your race? You are a self-hating brown person with no culture and love for our way of life. But it doesn’t end there.
