The David Mill (1894) returns Gauguin to Brittany between his Tahitian voyages. The old watermill near Pont-Aven appears in dense green and violet, a palette carrying tropical heat into a cold northern landscape he now saw only through Tahitian eyes.

Huge. Huge testament to the power of organising. Huge relief for Exeter friends and colleagues. Huge waste of time and resources. Huge reputational damage done. Huge warning to universities who want to treat their staff like they don’t matter.
The University of Exeter has confirmed that it won’t proceed with compulsory redundancies “at this time”. This means colleagues do not need to complete the pro forma, and there will be no selection process.
