I don't know what impresses me more—that a guy named D'Artagnan works at the Shoes, or that he actually looks exactly like a guy whose name should be D'Artagnan.

I almost always read the forward and dedication, which help get me in the author's head or into the context of the story. If I've really liked a book and/or thought it was amazingly researched, I will read the acknowledgements just to see who helped. Dust jackets don't do much for me.
